It definitely pours.

This past week GW and I spent the week in Seattle caring for our 10 year old grandson while his dad went on a business trip to Spokane. Looking at a WA map, these places are just about as far from each other as can be and still be in WA. Normally his mom would take care of him (they're separated) but she was also on a business trip, to Belgium.

He left there Monday to head for Spokane and we arrived Monday shortly after he left. It seemed as if we no sooner had unpacked than we got a call that he had tripped on some loose gravel in Spokane, fallen and broken his right leg. If that wasn't bad enough he has MD and his bones are fragile.

If there's a sliver of bright light to all this it's that he had ridden to Spokane with a co-worker who he's best friends with. The friend took him to the hospital, they operated on his leg on Tuesday and they want to keep him in the hospital for 2 weeks.

Mom got back today from Belgium and picked up our grandson and took him to her house. We packed up and just got back home.

Fortunately this family I married into gets along well so everyone is stepping up to the plate and once we determine how we all can help him we'll all pitch in. It just seems as though this kid (he's in his 40's) just can't get a break.

First the Muscular Dystrophy and all the struggles it brings, then separating from his significant other shortly after the baby was born, then 2 years ago he fell and broke his left leg in three places, and now his right leg.

When it rains, it pours.

Take care, Landon, we got your back.

How's the song go about "If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all".

Our prayers go out to him. Hope the healing process goes quickly.

Hope all goes well.

Our summer has been a blur. Mainly due to house projects (siding, new deck, new air conditioning). There were issues with the deck as my nosy neighbor turned me in for not having a building permit. My step-father had helped me install the 6x6 posts. 3 weeks later he was dead. Since then I have been busy helping my mother with estate stuff so our summer was shot as far as having any type of enjoyment. BTW-the house projects started when the wind blew siding off of our house in February.

EDIT: forgot to add that my truck has to go into the dealer Monday to diagnose an ABS light. Research shows it might be a $1500 repair. Then last night my touchscreen backup camera got real blurry and dark. Then tonight wifes Subara started making pretty loud squealing noise from front wheel area but brakes are only about 15,000 miles old

Seems like this "kid" is one tough guy with a very positive outlook on life, GFC. That speaks volumes to the way he was brought up and... yes, it sounds like you are very fortunate as well!

Best wishes to the kid :)

Thanks for the comments. At this time it looks like he will be staying with his sister's family (also in Seattle area) when he is released from the hospital. She is a licensed Occupational Therapist so she will help him with his recovery. Our part is this will consist of a few trips to Spokane to give him some company, take him some food, etc.

He and his siblings were raised by my wife from the time they were little kids until they went to college and moved out, got married, etc. My wife is one tough cookie to have raised the kids and have no drug problems or jail problems. One is the Occupational Therapist, one a CPA with a large firm, and Landon is a manager for a non-profit. Good kids all. I just happened to find this wonderful lady on Match.com and eventually talk her into marrying me.

Hope all goes well.

While your neighbor was a dick for not minding his business, he did you a favor,
We have a real nice 2 room addition on our house that increases the size by a third. When house burned down in 2014. Insurance said if no permit no pay. Without a permit it’s illegal and they are not responsible to reimburse. Wife spent a day at permit office and thank god the PO pulled a permit. Talking a $75k addition.
For construction you ALWAYS ALWAYS EVERY TIME get a permit.
Just like warranty, insurance will find every loop hole to deny payment. Fortunately PO and we had everything documented. And came out on top.
PS - sorry to ramble but I’m good at it. Suppose you got a no permit deck. Barbecue fire starts on your now illegal deck, burns the house down, it’s very possible they will deny the whole claim because it all started on a deck that was illegal, this is what they do. Always get permit.

Best wishes to you all. It sounds like you married into a similar and rare family like I did.

While my wife was in the hospital recovering from a heart attack, I had to put our (her) cat down. The week she was released, her father passed from ALS.

I figure you and I are in the clear for a while.

Best of luck to you.

An update on Landon's progression. He's feeling better today, that's the first day he has felt good. The docs want to keep him for 2 more weeks then transfer him to a rehab center. After that he'll be able to go home or to his sister's for more therapy. After about a week there he'll go home and my wife will fly over to take care of him for a week or so.
