Hi all,

What are your weekend go to ports / marinas in LIS? We've done Port Jeff a few times and want to venture out. We have Montauk & Greenport on the schedule, but want some other places to cruise to. Where are you guys headed to?

John,

I am not sure where you are exactly from your blog, but I assume near Stratford. I am in Bridgeport's Captain Cove Marina (Black Rock Harbor) where every Sunday there are bands on the deck and in the bar. Transient docking is free and a restaurant that serves your basic stuff.

I also travel a lot to Northport which has nice shops and good restaurants as well.

South Norwalk has two spots I go to regularly for food. The town dock is walking distance to shops as well.

Venturing out further City Island and Port Washington are more favorites. Port Washington has a good Italian restaurant with free transient dock age for guests.

Let me know what you are looking to do and I can add more...

Mark

Head to Mystic. Great hipster yet historic town with lots of fantastic restaurants and shops. Stay at Seaside Marine which is now owned by Noank Shipyard. They have nice floating docks, a hopping new restaurant on the water, and you're right in town. Head to watch hill the next day, 6 miles by water, for one of the best anchorages and beaches in RI.

Hi Mark,

yeah we are out of Stratford, its the first year with the new craft so we need to keep increasing our scope of distance, to get to the Block Island Run in August for the rendezvous. We have been alternating, on the hook and marina.

Mystic sounds cool too.

Westbrook is a nice place as well. I think the Brewers, Pilots Point, there is the largest marina in the state. Beautiful location, great onsite restaurant (The Boom), and a short walk to Bills Seafood and town. We would occasionally anchor out by Duck Island just outside the inlet to the Brewers and dinghy in.

We're in Port Jeff, so are there most of the time.

We like to go to Mystic Seaport. You get to dock at the seaport and get the run of museum - lots of fun. Usually we stay at the seaport, not venturing into the town (which is also nice). We've also been to Essex Island Marina a couple times. We were at Mattituck a few years back - Mat-i-mar was since bought out by Strongs and is supposed to be nice. From that marina you can walk over to Love Lane where are there are some little shops.

Thanks Craig and B_arrington I'm making notes and poking around on the net now.

I want to cruise to Montauk in a few weeks. Anyone have any recommendations?

Montauk Yacht Club. 2 pools, band on Saturdays, van shuttle to town, ocean beaches or Gosmans dock for lobster

mmm Sounds great to me! Thanks

NYC boating is on my bucket list. The main hold up is, not being a "seasoned" NYC driver, trailering a boat into the city scares the crap outta me!

myc is great
only downside is when you check out, you will realize that you now have another mortgage payment to make!

yikes!

We are planning to hit the Seaport after Block Island in August. Are slips generally available or do we have to make reservations well in advance.

You should make a reservation in advance. You can cancel it, but there are weekends where they can be full especially if it is a special weekend or there is a group gathering. I recently made a reservation a couple weeks in advance and got space. A different weekend I was considering was almost fully booked.

You might want to request to CC (or cruising club) dock on the north end of the museum dock. They are supposed to be easier to access the boat vs. the slips on the south side. Those south slips are fixed and can be pretty tricky to board the boat. Plus, I understand the bathrooms on the north side are better. I'll find out soon...
