What's your favorite cruisin music?

Gene Harris sure knows his way 'round the 88s. Great pianist. Not heard Gatton, but DeFrancesco is another good man. Haven't hear much from the Allmans but the Derek Trucks Band soars, so maybe they're on to something. Like Truck's wife, too but mostly her classic blues and R&B styles vocals more.

I'd like to rummage though your cd collection. Sounds like it might be interesting.

I am a HUGE Susan Tedeschi fan! Shemekia Copeland is another, along with Deborah Coleman and of course Etta James. I've backed a few female blues singers for a lot of the last ten years.

For some great piano work, check out David Hazeltine. He's the closest thing to Gene H I've heard yet.

You're welcome to borrow my Ipod anytime, Frank, if that IS your real name

And when it works the first CD through it will be Bob Seger's greatest hits!! Amazing CD.
Then followed up by Texas country, CCR (the orig), Boston, Moody Blues, new rap (for the gf), etc etc
Graham

Graham,

Either your dating yourself, as I am, or you have absolutely great taste in music.

Seger is absolutely fine...
Just give me some of that "Old time Rock and Roll"

Texas country, well, you have me at a slight disadvantage, but I like ZZ Top...

CCR..
The original "Heard it Through The Grapevine"

Boston is classic...
"More Than a Feeling"

Moody Blues is in a class by itself...
"A Question of Balance."

Well, I will have to admit that I am not dating myself, although I have seen The Moody Blues, ZZ Top, Lynard Skynard, Elton John, and a few others live in concert. I am 24 but I grew up listening to music like this on my parents vinyl....and a little reel to reel. A few of my other favorites, which the gf forbids me to play on the boat, are Bob Dylan, Gordan Lightfoot!!!, Roger Miller, Dire Straits, Travelling Wilburys, etc. etc.

Needless to say I have an interesting taste in music!!

Graham

Had to respond to this....

I'm not a big Chili Peppers fan but the best song for cruisin has to be snow (hey oh) by the Peppers. Try it out. Crank up the volume, crank up the speed and enjoy.

I like to make up CD’s of “Boat Music†for the changer and play them on shuffle. Lot’s of fun forgotten obscure stuff like, Mungo Jerry – in the summertime, Every Mothers Son – come on down to my boat baby, Spanky and Our Gang – lazy day, First Class – beach baby, Bobby Hebb – sunny.

Or, to just relax while reading, the Sirius – Jazz Café works good.

When taking guests out for a first time cruise, I play the “Three Hour Cruise†theme song from Gilligan’s Island – always good for a few grins.

Dido Margaritaville on Sirius stream 31, and for any one out there with out it YES they play a lot more than just Jimmy. THE BEST BOAT MUSIC HANDS DOWN! :smt038

The only thing I don't like is Feet at five on Sunday afternoon, It signals time to start home. :smt089

The next best stream 32 is Sirius Disorder especially around cocktail hour, I can't tell you how many people on our Pier have asked "What are you listening to?"

Now that sounds like fun! Beat the heck outta backing some corporate IT department :( like some of us do.

Yup. Already have a few of Hazeltine's CDs.

Cool! Do you ship?

Far as I know, it's my real name; it's what I got on my driver's license and passport. The Faith Catherine thing, I had to go find that old post to remember what I signed, was a goof. Too bad no one got it. I kind of liked the pontoon boat thing, but I was sure the HRC part would have been a dead give-away. Certainly the signature should have been. Oh well!

Frank, your taste in music is impeccable. Musician's taste tend to parallel your's, as the music we've been talking about is probably some of the finest ever performed. It takes a real discerning ear to judge the difference between what the record companies have been throwing at the public and what the real musicians are up to - but that's another rant - I'll refrain from boring you with that.

I'd certainly ship you my iPod if I could live without it for a week or two... but I can't )

p.s., Check out Marlena Shaw's 'Elemental Soul'

Thanks for the head's up on Marlena Shaw. I'll have to look for her on Amazon. Actually, since I got the Sirius radio a few years ago, my vistas have expanded quite a bit. Their jazz and blues channels are pretty good. Just Ducky's stereo stays on 74 for Shemekia Copeland's show on Saturday and 72 for Gary Burton, for example.

Best regards,
Frank
