whats this switch?

I have a 1999 215 Express Cruiser and I don't know what the on/off switch is at the bottom of the control lever.

A picture would certainly be helpful but it's probably the tether switch.

Control lever? Are you referring to the throttle/shift? The little red toggle switch is the emergency engine cutoff. You can attach a lanyard to it and to you. If you're thrown from the helm, the engine turns off.

be sure to leave the toggle in the 'up' position or the engine will not start (assuming it is wired correctly)........

yup... ask me how I know.

Yup. Also you don't need to spend an hour checking for spark, air intake or fuel when this switch is down. Ask me how I know...

Yup, yup. Guess what the most common call is that we get from the water during the summer? "We've been using the boat all day and now it won't start". After I explain I'll hear the engine start up in the background. Often times the next thing they say is, in a slightly muffled and embarrassed tone of voice... "Oh".

I think I've "tested" my switch in a few different boats. I'm happy to say they all work properly.

This and who knew that a 2000 270DA had fuel shut off that would slowly work its way closed.
