What's better? Sundancer or Venture

Yes well, actually I can see the boats that pass in front of my dock and normally those with outboards do not sound at all when they are in Idle. That's very true, even for higher horsepower outboard motors.
I wanted to know something else about outboards engines, the system for taking salt water for cooling... They also use an impeller that gets damaged from time to time and we have to be changing it?

I replaced my Yamaha 200’s impeller about every 2 years, that’s bad, should probably do every year in Florida. Got lucky, never an issue. But I did flush engine after each use with fresh water, simple hose connection. Even did it while in the water with engine raised at end of day.

My opinion of them being quite loud was not at idle speed. Yes, at an idle, modern 4 stroke outboards are extremely quiet.

74 dB is impressive. No doubt the covers aid in that. I’d love to take a ride in one.

I love outboards for saltwater. Yesterday we spent most of the day out in the gulf north of Clearwater in a 2 year old 27' day boat with a singe 300 Yamaha outboard. At idle you can stand right next to it and talk as if it wasn't even on. On plane at 30mph the noise of the engine can hardly be heard over the wind noise. Back at the dock it takes 5 minutes to to tilt the engine 100% out of the water and flush. Beautiful!

The days of my old 80's Evinrude stink-pot outboards are definitely over. I'd love one.

The venture is a neat boat but I'd be concerned with resale going forward. Only made a few years and largely misunderstood by most of the casual boating crowds.

I've had both and they both have plusses and minuses......If I had to choose again I'd take the 340 w/8.1 and v-drives, great overall cruiser that you can add guests and it never feels too small. If Venture had another 50-100 per engine that would make it much harder decision

370 Venture...
+ genius design to capitalize space around outboards and allow big swim platform for family and guests (crazy for boat w/outboards)
+ overall well thought out space
+ much quieter operating at idle or even on heavy throttle
+ better economy even when engines are working hard
+ outboards maintenance for me was much less over same number of years I had 340, replacing manifolds and risers on 8.1s are big part of that
- really doesn't feel like a 37ft boat...about 10+ft of boat is covers over outboards and swim platform so forward of outboard pods feels like a wide beam 28 ft boat
- I've had many issues with leaky areas of ceiling in cabin and side window gaskets similar to other owners
- 300Hp outboards are underpowered for this boat anytime you have more than 4 adults on board, prop change helped (following advice on this forum) but lost a little top end.

340 SD
+ better cabin space and more comfortable if more people on board
+ with no bow thruster slow speed maneuvering incredible with V-drives
+ low draft with prop tunnels, surprisingly similar to 370 Venture
+ with 8.1L gets on plane much much better than venture when loaded with lots of
- Engine access very limited with V-drives, good luck reaching down to change batteries and many other items
- engine repairs can be pricy because of limited access unless you do much of the work yourself
- on plane it feels like freight truck vs venture but still tracks well straight

I know they’re fairly new, but what is the reliability of the 300hp outboards, and how many hours would you typically expect to get from them?
