Since we are all boaters I know you guys like to fantasize about the ultimate boat. What features would you like to see in the ultimate Sea Ray?

I'll get us started. I would like to see a retro design like some of the European makers are coming out with. Big windows in the cabin. Windows in the v-verth. Round portholes for that classic nautical feel. I would want a hard top that covers the entire cockpit. Last but not least, all maintenance points for the engines and generator located where they can be easily accessed.

That's my dream boat.

I like the larger window idea as well as the hard top.

I would like to see the engine room hatch lift higher to make access easier to the transom area! I am too big to be crawling around just to maintain engines & genny!

Here's something that I've always thought couldn't be too hard for a manufacture to create:
Some sort of remote locking system. Very much like the key of a car, this feature would allow all of the compartments to be locked by the touch of a button on the remote/key, which would be a great feature for sure, when the owner is leaving the boat/marina. Upon return, with the click of a different button, all compartments would become unlocked.

Is this option possible?

In addition to all of the above, I'd like to see Zeus or ZF Pod drives available on all of the Sedan Bridges all the way up to the largest. I'd also like to see full hardtops with glass enclosures and robust bridge HVAC for the bridge boats as well.

Can we say: Yes…......it's just a matter of money!

I have my dream Sea Ray anyway: take my 390, make it longer at some 45' to 48'. Deeper V in the bow and more deadrise. I like the classical straight lines...no bubble design please.
Keep the straight shafts, add more tank for extended cruises. Basically keep the same cabin lay-out with larger guest room and a second head. Converting the dinette should be easier too.
No larger windows (they crack badly on the european boats you mentioned and heat up the cabin in august) and no opening at all on the sides of the hull (like a convertible). Hard top is ok but has to be open in the front like the DA 45 or 52 (which is almost perfect to me). Garage for the dinghy (may require 3 extra feet) and you are done!!! :smt038

I'd like to see one of these folks, trained as a diesel mechanic with expertise in all electronics matters, come with a cot in the engine room!

Paul...what's a "cot"???

Sorry but I'm trying to improve my english here :grin::grin:

Interesting that so many of you are agreeing with the full hard top. The reason I need it is because I've had two skin cancer surgeries in the past two years. My sun days are over.

Staying with a legally trailerable (8'6") beam (there are places to cruise and time is precious) and approx. 33' loa, a full cockpit length hardtop (antenna mounts, life raft, kayak/bike mounts, air horns, 2 powerful searchlights) connected to the windshield with cockpit heat/ac. The foredeck should be a completely flat and cushioned lounging surface such as on the Sessa 30 or 36 Key Largo. http://www.sessamarine.com/_vti_g2_miss_aspx_idM_32-rpstry_19_.sphtml. A larger head and a 250+ mile cruising range at 25 knots or better. Perhaps even 4 stroke outboards like Sessa to allow room to increase water/fuel tankage and cabin volume while decreasing air draft. Factory installed options should include autopilot, sat tv, cockpit tv screen, cockpit accessible air compressor hose and large gps/radar screen.

Some things make me go "huh?" on our boat. Example: this being our first boat- ever, I was surprised at the little obvious things that seem to be missing. One example- intermittent wipers and washer system. Yes, it is offered on higher priced Sea Rays, but seriously, how much can something like this add to the price of a boat. I mean we bought this boat new for a bit shy of 300K (with extended warranty) how much can something as simple as a wiper system found on the lowest priced Honda add to the cost?

Other things: standard AGM batteries, cabin light switches that make sense, and reasonable maintenance access for those items that need servicing on a regular basis (already mentioned).

A cot is a small portable bed.....much like the one the little certified diesel mechanic/electronics expert would sleep on while not performing his maintenance duties.:smt043

Paul

If he could mix cocktails and clean the boat I'd certainly order one too.

OK Brian, I hear ya. How about this new and improved, full service feature?

Sorry - I'm not one to hijack a serious post (much...) but it is New Year's Eve!

Happy New Years!
Paul

Thank you guys...I know you're celebrating right now while I'm having breakfast (drinking Folger coffee ) ..so

HAPPY NEW YEAR :smt038:smt038:smt038

I'll keep mine simple. Speaking for the smaller express type cruisers...1) a mattress that you can actually sleep on and 2) a REAL horn. Not the silly duck fart horn, but a REAL horn. How much more would that cost? I had both of these fixed in my 300DA on my dime and worth every penny.
