This Saturday I saw a boat on my dock empty his holding tank into the marina while at his slip on Lake Erie. Totally disgusted. Marina manager said my word against his. Said it happens often. really? What would yo do?

Did you say anything to the owner? How long has he been a slip holder. How long have you been at this marina & do your long term plans include staying? I ask these things just to better understand your situation, but to answer your question... I would not just accept it do nothing. From reading your post it seems as the marina "Manager" didn't seem to mind & didn't seem as if he would do anything to try to correct or prevent it. Even if it is "your word against his" I would report it to the proper authorities.

I'd take some video of the contents of the tank as they floated around his boat and maybe even scoop up a water sample from his slip. I'd also video the taking of the water sample because that would have the date/time the sample was taken. That should be enough for the EPA or whatever govt agency monitors water quality to get involved.

Make him go swimming next to his boat :smt101

Disgusting..... I'm appalled by boaters with such arrogance.

I would video or take a picture and report it.

Most things I would probably just talk to the boater about, but there isn't a boater around that doesn't know that's the wrong thing to do.

You know divers cleaning boats are getting sick diving around marinas and this is one of the reasons.

I'd probably still report him now w/o evidence.

F'in BS... I do not upset easily but this would set me off.

Wow, I thought that is illegal in a freshwater. How about calling the DNR and reporting the owner? I absolutely hate inconsiderate assholes that discharge waste into lakes because they are too lazy to use a pump out. They deserve to be fined for doing it.

And would report the marina manager as well for their indifference to what IS their problem.

Uhm guys.... It's illegal to have a working discharge valve in your boat on the Great Lakes all you need to do is call the DNR , I just had mine disconnected by my marine mechanic , he found it while installing my depth sounder it's a 15,000 dollar fine if they want to stick it too you .

I flagged down the coast guard as they were going by. Told then about and they stopped and asked him if he did it and he said "I don't think so"... Really? You don't know yes or no? He then said no so they pulled away and left. Going to mention to the other slip holders. Really ticked off.

He has been in Marina forever and actually used to manage it many years ago. He knows better but doesn't care.

Point it out to the authorities and maybe he will get a "safety" inspection.

Sure would be terrible of he got caught with a functioning macerator.

It's illegal just to have a valve not sealed that used to be a discharge valve , the hoses must be disconnected and the sea cock must be locked . There are no more discharge zones for pleasure boaters in the Great Lakes.

Hose can be connected but valve has to be locked. I purchased a locking cover that goes over the handle. Disconnected the pump and zip tied the wires out of the way, as well as disconnected the switch. I haven't had an issue. Call your local CG station.
