My boat came with a 2006C which is no longer updatable and somewhat outdated.
Looks like a big job to replace the cables and antenna.
Is there a good option to update my old 2006C and be able to plug it right in?
Not looking for the best $ can buy. Just something that is better and will hold me over for the 2016 season.
I am going to do a full electronics update next winter.
I just feel that having old charts is dangerous and I dont mind spending a few $ to be safer.

Decided to see if I can find a newer model Garmin that would plug in to the existing 2006c antenna and power cables.
Does anyone know if the plug terminals are the same?

You would at a minimum have to change the power cable to use a newer series like the 4208 for instance. Existing GPS antenna will need to be wired to NMEA port. Or go with a 740 with built in antenna; even less fuss. Either way, nothing newer is going to plug and play with the cable from a 2006C.

You could just run chart software on an iPad or mini to hold you over until the upgrade. Garmin Bluechart and Navionics both have apps for the iPad.
