What type of windlas (type & brand) shall i install?

Also does my boat have a harmess for it?

Looking forward for your help.

Thanks,

Shannon

While I haven't installed it yet, through my own research I settled on the Lewmar V700.

Your boat may or may not be pre-wired. There's a better chance that it is since it's an older boat. But, you won't know until you stick your head in the anchor locker and physically look for the heavy-gauge wires.

Please look at the Good windless they are in NJ. They have been around a long time, family run, and stand behind their product. Most important they are the only windless free fall down. This is a really nice feature and is much easier than hold the button and power down in 200 feet of rode. As a added plus they include a color coded anchor road so that you can keep track of how much lone is payed out. I go with Good windless

I have a Lofrans Marlin on my 260. I've never used any other one, so take that for what its worth.

The free fall feature must be nice. I generally anchor in less than 20' of water, and paying out the rode does take a little while. My windlass has a crank handle in the anchor locker that is supposed to allow you to free fall the anchor if you put the handle in the gypsy and loosen it. I tried a couple of times, but it wouldn't loosen. I had figuring that out on my winterization checklist. Damn thing turned pretty darn easy the day before I had her wrapped. I think the cold December weather contracted some parts and made it loose. Looking forward to trying it next spring.

Color coded rode :wow::wow:

On my 28 footer I had a wife on he 38 footer I have a Lofran. Both worked well. The wife would complain in the rain. The Lofran will slip if I do not advance the boat to the anchor point when it is set well.

Thank you for all reply,

I will consider both branks that you have menstioned Lewmar and Good.

Thanks for your help,

Shannon:thumbsup:

Hi,
I just had a GOOD f850 windless installed today on my 270 sundance SE, the GOOD Windless Co. did it, and they did a GREAT job right at my own dock in NJ.
Seems like a great windless, time will tell.

With your location, Good offers a feature that you should be aware of. They factory service their products and it is easy to do. That means you don't have to self diagnose, buy parts and try to fix a piece of machinery you know nothing about. With the standard Good, you remove 4 bolts and 2 wire connections and ship it to them. Their standard service is to check and remove all the electrical and line handling parts and replace any that show wear. When the windlass is returned, it looks and works like new.

The lewmar Profish 700 & 1000 are also free fall windlass's and from what im seeing, alot cheaper.

I like the idea of the GOOD windlass's color coded rode but how often does the color change? The site doesnt show or give that info.

If I'm anchoring in 10-15 ft of water and the rode only changes every 50 ft, that wouldnt do me much good.

Good 200 ft. Anchor Line Depth Marker Chart:
RED marker 0'-15'
BLUE marker 50'-60'
ORANGE marker 100'-110'
GREEN marker 150'-160'
RED marker 185'-200'

Windless comes with 10 ft. of Galv. chain also.
YOU also get a nice small sticker to put right next to your switch control. After not having a windless, I'd have to say this was the BEST thing I ever bought for my boat!
