What to do with the nest eggs

Dang. That's nuts! Even both Catholic school standards!
Not for the Catholic school I attended in the early to mid 80s. Sixth grade to high school graduation. Physical violence....uhhh discipline....was prevalent and swift. And if I got the paddle my Dad wanted to know what the hell I did to deserve it. Now I drew the line on the laying hands or fists on me. Those teachers that tried had their hands full. I spent a lot of time in Saturday detention....

Ouch you guys… I have only got out of the market twice….a couple months ago and 2008….. I don’t like this current gong show at all. Biden, Russia how do you feel good about any of it?….. I just put a hold on all capital spending at work and I need machines……but I am a bit freaked out right now.
However I am quoting defense work…..like crazy….some kind of over the shoulder missile components….. I already make components for government bullets and that has doubled in production…. Something is going on
We have given Ukraine over 25% of our usable inventory of Stingers, a weapon which has been out of production since 2007 IIRC. A lot of the subs on that program went out of business so it will take 2 years to ramp up production. We have given them like 30% of our Javelins. And then the artillery and shells. There are some serious concerns about how long we could field a legitimate defense of Taiwan give our current shortage of man portable anti air and anti tank weapon systems. I think that is what is going on, the Pentagon is panicking.

My wife recently decided to take a buyout from her family business. Her brothers are greedy pricks and she had enough. We got a nice chunk of change out of the transaction. I normally manage my own portfolio, but this is enough money to bring in the professionals. When my Dad died I took over managing his portfolio for my Mom. But after awhile I couldn't sleep at night. I added about 20% to the value, but decided to leverage my professional relationship with US Bank to get her in there. They have been fantastic and despite my siblings sucking off more money than was originally in the portfolio when I took it over (my Mom can't say "no". I put my foot down and said no more or I'm out. That ended it), there is still a nice 6 figure balance that will carry her through her final years. So we are giving them a chance to manage our stuff. I'll keep working, not sure about my wife.

This is bad enough. If Brandon gets away with enacting an UNrealized capital gains tax to fund his spending that will affect everyone before any profit or loss is accrued. A true travesty.
A big issue with taxing unrealized gains is let's say you are up $50,000 at the end of the year but haven't sold. Now you pay taxes on that $50,000. Now January comes and something happens and you end up losing $20,000 on that investment. Will they give you back that tax you paid on that $50,000? Highly doubt it. This would be less of an issue for the typical investor but could really affect short term traders. This could potentially put many smaller traders out of the business and without the small time traders like me the market would be in big trouble. And if you don't believe me look at what the little guys did with AMC and GME. Wouldn't have as big of an impact on a company like AAPL or TSLA but you get the point. Those guys are the ones that would feel the biggest impact from this crap.
No different than the real estate market skyrocketing and now your house is worth $500,000 but you aren't selling. 2 years later you decide to sell due to an economy crash and you sell for $300,000 but you are charged tax on that $500,000 because of a 'well you could have' value.

I don't buy it. In the last 12yrs we've spent about 8.4 TRILLION on the military. We better be giving the Ukraine the old stuff and there ought to be plenty cool new stuff we're keeping for ourselves. Some in the media say 'the shelves are empty'...I think that's BS, but if it's not I want to know were the money went.

Probably all the stuff Biden left in Afghanistan

Boatman 37 understands the issue!

Since we have an unrealized gain that is being taxed how are the taxes to be payed? Sell another investment to generate revenue? Now we have another taxable event that more tax is owed on, possibly at a higher rate. This becomes a never ending cycle until the stock market breaks because of the sell side pressure of paying taxes.

What if you have a hard asset such as a house, apt, land etc. What do you sell to pay the bill assuming you don’t have the funds on hand? Large land owners may have to sell the land to pay taxes.

Boats are not an investment despite the rise in prices over the last few years. Do you owe taxes on the unrealized appreciation of your depreciable asset? Will you buy diesel or pay the taxes? Will you be able to continue boating?

As everyone can see this is a never ending money grab that can not end well.

Well, you see, you are assuming libtards have a logical side. The are all emotion and how this would affect the "rich" is not important. Only thing that matters is the "rich" are paying their "fair share", whatever the fu@k that means. Of course none of the Dumbocrats are "rich" including $100+ Million Nancy Pelosi.

It went to Iraq and Afghanistan. And the US hasn't purchased Stingers since 2004. But you are entitled to live in your own reality. Plus, $1 Trillion doesn't go as far as it used to, just ask Joebama.:cool::)

My nest eggs are scrambled.

Amazing how a green day like yesterday helps us almost forget about the many previous red days prior.

I did some buying last week for long term.

What a gong show….. I hope every person who voted for this current administration are feeling the pain of being stupid

Just look at what this administration has tried to take credit for. The biggest workforce reduction we have seen in our lifetimes due to COVID so naturally it will recover but yet they are trying to take credit for creating all of these jobs. Elmer Fudd could have done that. Now they are crashing the market and the economy then before election the market and economy will miraculously recover and they will try to take credit for fixing the economy to get votes. They think their voters are so dumb...well some are...lol

I said the other day we needed to hold 4106.75 on /ES futures and we didn't. We broke it and bounced but look at today.

But I made money today trading puts but my 401 and IRA aren't liking it but I'm about 75% cash in my IRA

This is a weekly chart of QQQ. The g3 green arrows on the left side are all long entry signals based on my algorithm I built. The one red one on the right side is a short signal.

There is another red arrow signalling a short almost at the peak near the middle but my EMA cloud is green so I don't enter those but you can see there was a short signal there
