My wife, daughter (8) and I are thinking of a stop in Port Washington on an upcoming trip.....

Any suggestions on family friendly/fun things to do there for a night/day?

We just left there Sunday. The downtown does not have a lot. Port Washington has some festivals (Fish Days in July) and last weekend was the Lions Club fishing tournament and they has some live music in the marina parking lot. It's a big fisherman's marina, so watching the launch the boats and relaxing is the primary activity. We had a good dinner at the Newport Shores which is just north of the marina. The Port Hotel has food also, use to be a favorite but has declined a bit in the past couple of years. There is a park up the hill to the north, but nothing special other than being a city park.

Been awhile since I've been there but we used to go to the Smith Bros restraunt in the hotel as Brutus said. Not sure how it is now a days. You could eat on the upper deck outside. Lots of little shops to see and we always walked out to the lighthouse.

The fuel cost will be lower than MKE and definitely Sheboygan. Nice newer marina w/ floating docks. Not a lot for kids.

We were there the 26th of July. Stayed at Kaps in Detroit Harbor. The weather sucked, but we did rent a car and drive around the island. There are a few small museums if you like to see old crap. For our family (4 kids 11,9,7,7) it wasn't much fun. Marina wasn't much to brag about either. We crossed it off our destination list. Back to Door County for us. Much nicer, and stuff for the kids to do.

Door county is awesome and the bay area is great! I have rental property in Egg Harbour but haven't been there in years. We miss the fish boils and weekend festivals. Last time we were there Palmer Johnson was working on 2 100ft+ sister sail boats. It seemed like the masts were as tall as the bay bridge.

Maybe we'll skip it then, and just go the extra hour down to Milwaukee and spend an extra day.

We were thinking Kenosha to Sheboygan, 2 days or so in Sheboygan. I wanted to then do Sturgeon Bay, but I'm having trouble convincing the wife on that one. Especially if we'd run the full way back from Sturgeon Bay to Kenosha at the end of the trip...

My $0.02 - We just spent three days in Kenosha last week. We had only planned a day, but were so impressed we decided to stay longer! Southport Marina is fantastic - pool and 2 hot tubs! 3 excellent museums, including the only civil war museum in the midwest! Good dining choices - the best we found was also closest to the marina - Ashling on the Lough. Great Irish food. Several fun shopping places. The town has spent HUGE bucks (most federal no doubt, in Paul Ryan's home town!) revitalizing a large area that was formerly an AMC auto plant. It's just beautiful! We will be back!

Southport is my home port! Glad you enjoyed your stay.

Kenosha does a great job of having things going on every weekend as well!

Is there a lot to do within walking distance of the marina in Kenosha?

How far is the trip from Sturgeon Bay to Kenosha?

Here's a copy/paste from my notes from my trip planning.....

Leland to Manitou Islands ~10 NM (35 min)
Sturgeon Bay WI to Leland == 72 NM (2 hr 45 min)
Sheboygan to Sturgeon Bay = 70 NM (2 hr 45 min)
Port Washington to Sheboygan = 25 NM (1 hr)
Milwaukee to Port Washington = 22 NM (1 hr)
Racine to Milwauee = 21 NM (50 min)
Kenosha to Racine = 10 NM (35 min)

Racine to Kenosha is VERY quick. We do that pretty often, for dinner.... Or to that break wall just south of the marina...

When you come down, ask to be on E dock. Best dock :)
