Ok. Here is one for you. Found this when looking under the dash to figure out the electronics on the boat. This looks homemade except for the PC boards. Perhaps something stock that the housing broke on. WHAT THE HECK IS THIS THING ?

So I have to ask, are your engines converted to N2K and is your generator converted as well?

If they are converted what converters are being used?

The device a timer circuit for either a substitute tach signal for the generator or some sort of timer circuit for the generator or something needing to wait after it is turned on.
 
Like @Shaps mentioned, you're going to have to trace wires to see what it's controlling. Could be something like a four-minute timer for the blowers so they don't get left on forever. Hm-m-m; I might have to try that...

After a 2nd look at the boards, the other little board looks like a wireless relay to tun something on, like the other board.

Did the boat come with a key chain remote for something?
 
I figured this post would get some action. I was hoping it was not a self destruct timer that is set for 2 months after i bought the boat.

The boat was repowered in 2012 with 8.1 horizons and it currently does not have a generator.

That second board does indeed look like a wireless relay. Is there some type of keyfob on the boat? Still going to need to chase down the wiring or, of course, ask the previous owner.
 
All of that red and yellow wire spaghetti mess looks to be aftermarket. I suspect this is partially a timer circuit to turn all of the boat's electronics on a programmed time after engine start.
There appears also an RF receiver for a key fob for something else.
This really needs to be cleaned up or better yet removed including the masking tape used for insulating.

I completely agree. That's why I pulled the dash panels off. The NMEA 2k network looks a mess too. I have no idea where a keyfob would be and i can't talk to the previous owner. Just figure it out and clean it up. I greatly appreciate all the help !!
 
Maybe a timer for bilge pumps?
I did something similar to keep my inaccessible bilge free of standing water. No wireless key fob though.
 
My last had a key fob to turn on some lights as I approached. Maybe something like that?
 
It's from a Covid shot, they are tracking this boat, and you, now. Or it's from Amazon so they can get referrals from this thread.

Why can't you talk to the PO? I found the PO PO PO of my boat on LinkedIn and asked him about the boat out of curiosity.

My guess is take the bottom two red wires of the smaller board (from your post) and jump them together. That looks like the relay side of the board. On the board itself there should be markings like "NO COM NC", might be in a different order but something close to that. Jump those two wires together and you bypassed the wireless portion of the puzzle. That would turn on the other control board, then you could see what came on and where. Take note to the time on the larger board, that may count down/up. So you might need to engage that a few times to locate what is being controlled by that. Good luck.
