Motor is a 1971 OMC 327. I was wondering if any knows the factory gap spec. I've always gapped them at .035 but I read on another marine board that they should be gapped at .025. That don't seem right to me but wanted to get some other guys input on this. Thanks in advance for the help.

Per my OMC book by SELOC set your plugs at .035. They list a 215hp and a 235

Now my book gives the engines in HP ratings but some digging shows only a 307 Cubic Inch Chevrolet engine in 1971. Both the 215 and 235 HP

As I page thru the book seems all the Chevrolet engines want .035 gap.
As far as the actual CID of your obviously special ordered engine in that year, there is one easy way to find out. The casting no. is on the back of the block on the lip in front of the bell housing. http://www.chevymania.com/ has a great casting number decoder chart and can tell you exactly what she is.

Hope that helps even more than just the gap setting.
I am very curious what it is you have as it looks very rare.

Jitts3 you are awesome. I found the casting # and it is indeed a the 235hp 307. My grandpa bought this boat in 1975 from the original owner and the whole time he called it a 327. You actually posted in my thread that had the pictures of it. http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/44814-My-1971-Searay-SRV200.

Also here is a thread I posted that has a couple videos of it idling at the dock. You posted in it as well.

Yea, I couldn't bring up the Facebook videos on my phone. But just by looking at the pictures that thing is very cool. Very glad I could help. I just got home and was able to get into the books prior to getting to work on my 240.
Curious, where in Ohio are you?

Cool deal. If I ever get down that way with the Peterbilt you can show me that classic. I'll bring the beer!
