My raw water pump for my air conditioner is seriously corroded. It still workes fine but I'm afraid the whole motor is going to fall off its mount soon. I have a 2003 340 sda and have the cruisair/taylor made air conditioner. Its model SXR12-M58. I went to the Tesco web site and they have both a new mount and/or a new pump. I think the replacement is the 500gph pump but I was wondering if anyone can confirm this. Thanks.

My AC pump is 500 GPH. (12,000 BTU Cruisair)

I have the same issue, while cleaning my bilge noticed the mount is all but rusted away and the pump is more or less sitting there held in place by the hoses. Did you find the model number for the pump that you need, should be the same as me, I'm an 04 340.

An AC-3CP-MD is the first one that looks like mine but it's 600 gph, says it's a replacement for Cruisair Taylor Made model: PMA500. The id sticker from my pump is long gone, I actually saved it when it fell off several years ago but have no idea where I save it, good intentions poor execution.

I'm looking for confirmation that a AC-3CP-MD is the correct pump on an 04 340, I assume the same pump was used on other years as well but would feel better having confirmation before ordering. If any other 03-08 340 guys out here happen to know, feedback appreciated.

I can confirm that the pump is in fact the AC-3CP-MD. It has a 500GPH capacity and is a perfect replacement for what is there. From what I can determine, the design of the pump is quite poor. The metal casing doesn't hold up well at all in an engine setting and begins to rust within a year or two. The motor housing should be so much more water resistant than what it is. They don't even use corrosion resistant sheet metal screws. Another example of super poor quality design. The pump certainly does what it's intended to do but it never should have been used in this design if it was going to be subjected to water or humidity in the engine compartment. The rudder stuffing box on the port engine may have something to do with the rusting that starts occuring. The box is designed to let a drop of water through for lubrication purposes. Under moving conditions, it is possible that some of this accumulated water occasionally splashes onto the metal casing of the AC pump motor and begins the process. In addition, the pump sits directly below the hatch cover which, when opened, will drip small amounts of water into the engine compartment. Things like this may occur after rainstorms or wash downs....who know. Regardless, I decided to place some flexible lexan (you know, clear plastic sheet) in a sort of make shift cover over the pump. After having it in place for a few days I looked again and, sure enough, there where a few water marks on the plastic which never made it to the pump and were blocked. We'll see if it prolongs the life of the pump at all. I paid $152.60 (shipping was $13 extra) from Tesco pumps on line. They also can be found on e-bay. That's the cheapest I found. Irony is I wish I could have just bought the motor and mount. My magnetic pump is in perfect condition. However, they don't sell just the motor (surprise!). They only sell the magnetic pump for $60. That doesn't seem to be the part that ever wears out...............

Thanks for the confirmation, from the picture I was pretty sure but wanted to be positive before I ordered. Tesco is the best price I found as well. I know how mine gets wet, when the hatch is down the cockpit shower box is directly overhead and it drips right onto the pump, I only finally figured it out last year. I replaced all the rubber seals inside the fittings for each hose and darn thing still drips, there are three, hot, cold and the shower hose. I had a few other hoses that were dripping and noticed the seal had become depressed and replacing the seals did the trick, not sure why these are stubborn and still dripping, guess I'll try another set. I'm calling them seals, I believe they are actually cone o-rings, there was a small bag of them on the boat when I purchased it, haven't been able to find them anywhere local but need to, think I only have one left.

That's a good idea putting the cover over it, I may do that as well to keep the water off mine. Thanks again!

Amazing that West Marine can justify selling the identical air conditioner pump for $309 before tax and I can get the same pump for $152 with free shipping from Tesco. While I realize fully a brick and mortar store has more expenses doubling of the price seems excessive to me. If they ever wanted me to be loyal to their brand making me feel like I'm being dragged over the coals everytime I step foot in their store is NOT the way. Whenever I can I stay away from their store. I've even gone so far to throw their catalog into the recycle bin as soon as I get it.

WM only has to justify getting your money out of your wallet.
