Hi guys

since you all have been so knowledgeable and helpful with the other questions I have asked here, thought maybe you could give me some info on these questions.

I have a 1999 sea Ray 540 DA
When I am running on just batteries the lighting is very strange. Only the main lights work in both bedrooms and the lights in both heads.
The salon and galley lights do not work at all.
Should those be operational when just running on batteries? Its quite annoying the whole middle of the boat has no lights and i have to use a flashlight in there when on batteries. I have a TV that runs on 12 V power but it seems it gets no juice when on batteries.
So my question is, is this normal or should my salon and galley also have lighting? My guess is it should!
If it should, where would i begin to figure this out and fix this problem?
, i had the boat shipped to Australia from the USA, since it arrived my compass has been stuck at a 45 degree angle... it still works shows the direction i am going but is stuck at this angle... i thought maybe once i was in heavy seas and the boat rocked around a bit it might normalize...no such luck .... i was thinking of taking the compass apart myself and trying to fix it, my question is...is a compass one of those things you just do not touch and leave to the pros or is it something thats not too complicated to work on? Just wanted to make sure before i pull it apart and possibly wreck it as its a large compass and probably pretty expensive lol
Oh yeah just thought of another ? my RPM gauges act pretty stupid... some times they are normal but most of the time they are jumping around all over the place swinging up and down.... i was trying to think of what may cause this ...my ideas are maybe a bad ground as they display correctly a good portion of the time ...or is there some sensor i need to check ..this is both port and starboard... or are they computer controlled on these boats?
Well while i have got you guys attention lol
My VHF radio was fine, ever since the atlas rep fixed the Atlas when i try to send a message and push the xmit button it crackles and goes in and out and does not send the message.. this is a brand new vhf ..not sure is there something i can check or should i just buy another?
Is there bags on the central vacuum or does everything just get sucked straight overboard?
I have an engine synchronizer, have no idea how to operate it... i know when you engage it supposedly the port throttle slaves to the starboard.... when do you engage the synchronizer is there a proper time or RPM to do this at or can you just engage it at any time? my guess is at idle speed but i just do not know... Is it advisable to use the engine synchronizer whenever possible is it better for the boat?
During shipping somehow the bed in my master bedroom has dropped down several inches from the mirror above...it seems to be one piece with the bed anyone have any ideas how to fix this...see attached pictures...
The corian counter top has a nutone food center, the only attachment it has is a blender... I know there originally was a food processor and other things...do they still make these and anyone know where i could purchase the additional parts that would fit?
My garbage compacter is stuck in the down position, looks like someone loaded it improperly and it got jammed...when i turn it on the shaft spins but it does not complete the cycle and come back up ...i have been trying for weeks to pull the unit it ...but just can not find any way to remove it from the cabinet! Maybe do i have to take out the glass top stove above it ..hoping someone has a boat like mine and has some idea how to pull the unit so i can fix it!

All of my electronics have sea talk or nmea capabilities but none of them are connected together... I was thinking of giving it a shot connecting it all up ...is it not a good idea for someone who does not know it well to do this...in other words could i damage something by putting the wires in the incorrect place or will this all just not display properly in that case ... would you guys advise leaving that to the pros or think its ok to tinker?

Every single through hull that has a seacock should have a sea basket right? there is no exceptions to this or is there? I was down in my engine room before starting her up for the trip home doing the pre voyage checks...oil, sea strainers, coolant etc and noticed... a glass housing type strainer unit that is attached to a sea cock..its pretty small but with no sea basket in it .... i look din the manual and can not find a reference to anything in that area... the only thing i can think of is it may be for the AC unit but there is a seastrainer on the starboard side for that so can not figure out what this is for and if it should have a basket in it.... i followed the hose and it goes to i think the dripless system would this make sesnse ..what the heck could this be for and should i put a sea basket in it?? just didn't want to put something in there without be sure it should have one! Cant imagine it is safe to have any salt water inlet unprotected ..dunno..

Finally i noticed that on my shafts for both engines at the top where the shaft goes into the motor there is a black ring type clamp... on the starboard shaft it is all the way up where the shaft goes into the transmission... on the port engine it is further down the shaft... i dunno but this seems incorrect to me... i may be dead wrong but thought i would ask in case some one knows..i have attachéd pictures..
Oh and any idea where the Bow thruster fluid reservoir would be located... i want to check it but can't find the bloody thing and no reference to it in the user manual...

None of the gauges that are actually on the engines themselves work, is this an important issue i should get fixed right away... what are the gauges on the engines for in case the ones up in the cockpit fail?

In case you are wondering from the pics why there is paint where there should not be, i had someone detail the engine room back in the states and he did a messy job....not only that but just painted over corrosion...i am now going through the whole engine room sanding down any spots with corrosion underneath and rust treating then repainting ..also trying to get his sloppy paint job cleaned up!. the broken wire like looking thing over the port shaft is to a heat sensor that goes to one of the gauges that don't work on the engine... the idiot that detailed my engine room broke off quite a few things while doing the job that was one of them ..he did much more damage than good including breaking off an essential connection into my oil cooler tube and detaching wires on my alternator and other places not telling me about it and not putting them back on...what an idiot!

I know this is a lot of questions and do not expect you guys to answer them all..just thought i would throw it all out there just in case someone knows the answers! the reason i am trying to do all of this myself is so i can learn how to maintain my boat...Thanks a whole ton in advance for anyone that tries to help!!

nix the question on the shaft clamps that I attached pics for. Just found out it is an emergency seal in case the dripless breaks you clamp it down the bottom so your boat does not sink!! Apparently if for some reason your dripless seal goes the inflow of water is huge and the bilge pps would not keep up. So you have to knock off the old seal and move those down to stop the water as quick as possible.

I'll take a stab at the first chapter of your book... "lighting"...:smt001

The easiest way to know if a particular light works on AC or DC is to look at the bulb. Some fixtures are 12V only and some fixtures are AC only. Some fixtures have two bulbs inside - one for 12V and one for AC. I purposefully didn't mention "110v" because I'm not sure if that's what you have there in Australia, or 220v? This boat came from the States so it's going to be wired for 110v.

To sync my diesels I first put throttles in idle, transmissions in neutral, then I push the sync switch, push the starboard throttle all the way up, then I put port engine in gear and slowly push up the port throttle.

To un-sync, I go back to idle, back to neutral and then un-sync.
