What Is Up With Gas Containers?

Yeah, but in general the way you have to hold the *$&#^^ things, I can't see past the *$&^#%^& spout to see the ****342 fuel level while filling. That's when I create a huge &^%$$^& mess. Also why I never fill a tank in the garage. . . .

You can fill the tank in the garage if you are not simultaneously hugging a tree. Just kidding. My cans have an extra handle on the back that makes pouring much easier and spill proof than my old cans that only had a handle on top. See the picture below.

I may be the lone dissenting voice here but I actually have gotten to like the evirocans especially for filling my small pieces of lawn equipment like my 4 cycle leaf blower. I did have the plastic spout extension come off in the gas tank of my John Deere Tractor but it won't hurt anything. I do agree that it takes longer to put 5 gallons in my tractor tank but I don't spill nearly as much on the driveway while filling other pieces of equipment. I actually like being able to turn the flow off before I remove the spout from the tanks. I could give a rat's ass about being enviro friendly but not having to smell spilt gasoline in my garage is a plus.
Me too! The dual handle helps holding the tank up for filling the John deere.....

A lawn maintenance guy you are not!:smt009 There are two weed wackers, gas for me, plug in electric for the wife since she can't pull start the gas one, a lawn edger, and a gas powered hedge trimmer with an adjustable blade angle. I decided I was paying too much to iliegals to do my yard so started doing more of the work myself!:wink:

Actually, hanging upside down from a tree while fueling is the prefered method.

Those are the damn cans that have you pushing forward on a safety trigger before you can push down on the other main trigger for flow. Handle on the back is nice, but spout is just plain ridiculous.

So what happens? People throw the spout out and use a funnel to get a fast fill; and end up spilling more fuel than the old style used to, defeating the purpose!

I did a search using the criteria KIMO suggested (Californians should know who makes a good gas can!)...thanks KIMO

This plastic jug may have some merit...though I'm reluctant.
www.tuffjug.com if they trust it dumping gasoline over a hot motorcycle engine...then it has my attention.

There is a video link on this site to how it works....my experience is with the guy on the right....with wet feet from gas

Still a lot of sheckles for a plastic container...priced in the $40 range for a 5 gal container.

Stray Cast, The jug you mentioned has one of those (NO GOOD) CARB spouts. The vent is a a straw inside the spout that (supposedly) sucks vapor from your tank back into the jug as you pour. Also, as the spout and shut-off sleeve harden over time and will turn you into a Spray Cat.

What looks good in the ad, works badly in the real world. Everyone you see that has trailered dirt bikes out to the boonies uses the long flexible filler tubes. Add the ball valve and it is the only way to go!

By the way, it works good on portable generators too...

Thanks for the feedback...their marketing department does a nice job of convincing otherwise. The spout with manual shut off would give more control.

I wonder, if you use one of these leaky gas cans to fill your lawn mower and it bursts into flames, injuring you, did you just win the lottery?

I thought the same thing...it is a lawsuit waiting to happen. I've been to the burn unit for a visit at U of IA Hosp...I'll pass on that lotto! Can you imagine the chain of suits that would follow...this gas dispense thing is about the dumbest thing I've come in contact with in some time.

All I wanted is a simple damn 2 gallon container that will safely store and pour fuel into a small gas engine tank...I'll stop whining, the next dumb thing is, they'll put beer in a plastic bottle...wait, they've already done that :smt089

I like the one that Two Peas has...I always called them a military can...aren't they called a "jerry can" or something? I should go to some farm sales, then again, most of the guys today have a tank that is tossed into the back of a pickup with a 12V pump.

Has anyone used one like this?

I read some good / some not so good reviews online. I normally store about 10 to 15 gallons of gas in my garage for the portable generator (oh no, what did I just say) snowblower etc. Maybe I should consider this type of can anyway...if it will pour. I still don't understand all this fancy crap on the fill spout end, CARB should be outraged at the amount of fuel that is spilled by the use of the rinky dink spouts!

I have and they are the antithesis of the new "CARB" cans.

You squeeze the handle and a spring loaded cap opens and you pour straight down the funnel as fast as the funnel will take it. You let go or drop it and the cap slams shut.

I like.
