I recently had the boat out and under a load and above about 2200 RPM, the starboard motor was sort of missing. My first thought was water in the fuel. Today I replaced the filters and drained them. No water. Good news I suppose. But....I was cleaning out the bilge and noticed a small black item floating. Picked it up and this is what I found. It appears to be some sort of vacuum related part. Any idea?

Well crap! I just found the diagram online. It's got to be that part, also confirmed by your link. Reason I say.....my drive fluid reservoir was mysteriously a little bit low a couple of weeks go. I couldn't see much in the bilge though as it was dark when I looked. I will go back tomorrow and see. Thanks for the tip!

That is the gear lube connector at the transom. It is attached to the end of the hose from the lube bottle. If this were broken on your boat the entire bottle of oil from the drive reservoir should be in the bilge. Having had one of these go wrong, I can tell you there is no mistaking the oil slick. Hopefully this is a piece left over from a replacement done by a previous owner. Also hopefully the matching male end of the assembly is ok. I say hopefully as the part that goes through the transom is literally the $ 10 part with the $ 1500.00 installation bill.

Henry.. A $1500 install bill on the part that goes thru the transom assy??????? I've don't many of those and it only takes a few hours at tops

Why was it "floating" in your bilge? Do you have a lot of water in there?

I am by no means a mechanic, and am just asking the question out of curiosity; but if it were the part to the outdrive lube, I would think there would be no need to look for the gear lube/oil in the bildge. You would smell the unmistakeable smell (even with a small leak) well before you even get on your boat. It would be even worse if it got hot.

My last boat had an Alpha One and I changed the gear lube every year and dreaded the smell, especially if,or when, it got on your clothes.
Good luck.
