In the pictures below there is a black rubbber substance that lines the bottom of the windshield (some sort of seal I assume). On my boat this substance is disintegrating. My questions are: 1) Exactly what is it, 2) Must the windshield be removed in order to replace it, 3) Is it something that I can do myself.

Thanks
Ray

It deteriorated on my 97 330 DA also. It is called "screw covering" and it covers the channel around the windshield. It is made by "Taylor Made" and my Sea Ray dealer (Marinemax, Wilmington) ordered it in a roll for $127. It is superior to the OEM stuff as it is more pliable and easier to install. I suggest replacing it as it keeps water and dirt out of the windshield channel. Hope this helps, Dan

You can call TaylorMade directly. $1/ft. My 370 needed about 20 feet.

Agree with the above. I would just add that it is easy to replace. Just pull it out and replace with the new stuff. I used a plastic putty knife on my last boat to "tuck" it in place. It will not be a problem to do it yourself.

Ray,
The original was a foam material and the sun took its toll. Obtain the serial number from the windshield if it is a Taylor Made, measure the required length, add a few inches and order direct from Taylor. The new material is rubber and stands up much better than the older foam. I found that the rubber was much easier to install when heated in the sun and try not to pull it into place or you will have a gap on the ends once it shrinks in cooler temps. If it is not seating with ease in the frame channel, use a little dish soap to assist with the install.

Perfect timing on this thread as I was wondering the exact same thing. If I go to Taylor's site I see a 6ft roll (pn 1630) and an 8ft roll (1631). Is this the correct part?

tdappleman - No, that's not the part. It is rubber. Call TaylorMade and speak to someone in person to get the correct part. I even had to send a digital picture because their part numbers had changed, but I got the right part.

While you are replacing the foam spend a little more time and take out, clean and recaulk the window frame screw holes and put back the screws. One at a time. It's not hard. I had a leak into my galley cabinet in my old 330DA. This is where it came from.

Foam is still available from Taylor Made

Taylor changed that channel covering from a foam based rubber product to a formed strip of rubber around 2000 or 2001. I had a warranty issue with a part of Just Ducky's windshield. When the guys from Taylor replaced the the part, they also removed the old black foam and installed all new rubber strips. The new material is much better than the older stuff.

Best regards,
Frank

Glad I saw this too. Mine's original and is shrunk and ready to replace.
