What is the most efficient way to make good coffee on smaller cruisers? We do have a generator that can and needs to be used. Options we are looking at are a small coffee maker, squeezing in a full size coffee maker, or a French press. I did see the stainless press in another thread.

Thanks,

MM

Even w/out a stove, I've found a way to make really good cafe Italiano. I bought a "pocket rocket" backpacking stove and an Italian stove-top espresso maker. I set it on the counter top or on the swim platform and voila! Good Italiano. And it all packs away in very little space.

Depending on how much that you need to make. Lots of cups se above
BUT: If you only need to make a couple of cups. I use the Micro-wave with "Folgers" 100% pure coffee Single (red) bags. ( don't laugh until you try it)

.... always a French press is the best. Bad coffee beans taste horrible, however great beans taste the best when pressed.

I heat the water on the alcohol stove and then use a french press! Add some hot chocolate and I'm ready to sit on the deck and watch the nuts go by!!

We use Hazelnut Beans, a grinder and a 4 Cup coffee maker. It all fits into the cabinet just above the sink.

Having lived in Seattle for the past 40 years (home of Starbucks) I have tried every coffee maker imaginable - drip machines, electric espresso machines, stovetop expresso machines, french presses, etc. For our boat we are using the single cup Kuerig coffeemaker. There are many models available, and you can get the coffee/cocoa/etc. cartridges at Costco in different brands and flavors. The coffee is excellant, and the convenience was the deciding factor for us. Only issue is starting up the generator when on the hook, but we do that in the morning anyway.

I use the Kuerig at home and it is great. On the boat I just use instant (using the microwave to heat). We everything else that is required I do not need another appliance to worry about on the boat.

We bought a Keurig single-cup brewer, as well. Hardest thing about that is deciding which variety to use. FYI: they seem to run on the stong side, but there are many others to try...

We have been using an insulated 10 cup french press for the last 2 years. That is until the glass lining broke on a rough ride one day a couple of weeks ago. We don't have a genny, so our choices were another french press, or a percolating stove top pot. We ended up picking up 2 of these 8 cup unbreakable presses. I had the opportunity to use one of them twice last weekend to brew up my favorite blend, Kona. It worked really well. The old press had a screw on lid that would keep the liquid in even if you knocked it over. The lids on the new ones just sit on top. The friction of the plunger is the only thing that "holds" the lid in place. I don't think it will be a problem because they have big, round, rubber, non slip bases on them and seem very stable on the boat. Another nice feature of the new ones is that the lids have a filter screen that covers the pour spout, catching the last little bit of gounds that always seems to make it by the plunger.

For $18, I can recommend them. They do the job if you can heat up the water.

The smallest Keurig is the way to go, for balance of ease of use, footprint, and quality.
