What is Signature Series

Hello,

I am thinking about purchasing a 1994 Sea Ray 200 Signature Series. I was wondering what is the signature series. Is it a trim level or a model. The reason that I ask is because I looked up the boat on NADA and it is a little lower than the asking price of the boat but there aren't options for trim level. Any help would be appreciated.

BTW, the boat is in perfect condition & I can buy it for $7100. Does this sound like a fair price?

Thanks

Are you sure it's a Sea Ray? Chapparal calls their cruisers signature series cruisers.

Before Searay went to the select Series in the runabouts, I believe they were called signature series. It's just upgraded fit and finish really.

The signature series are upgraded trim/seats/etc models that were available from Sea Ray back in the 90's. I was looking at a really sweet Sea Ray Signature Cuddy back a couple years ago.

I have to learn to type faster. Troubador beat me to it. I hate when that happens. :)

Doesn't sound too bad to me. It's along the lines I would be thinking. You may be able to get them down a bit more, considering the market demand and time of year too.

I would actually like to see it go for more, since I have a '95 175 that eventually will be sold to upgrade, but.... :smt001

$7100 is not bad, especially since i paid a few thousand more for my '97 190. Do try to get it a little lower though, even a little. Please get it checked out before you buy!!! Wish I did. :smt021

I had a 1995 220OV and a 1999 230OV Both Signature series. As mentioned above they were in between the sport boats and cruisers for size and appointed nicely.
I believe they had them from:
the 190BR and OV
the 200BR and OV
the 220BR and 22OV (Changed to the 230BR and OV in '99)
and the 240BR
Here's a pic of my 230OV

It sounds like a good price but make sure the drive and engine are in good shape.

Best of luck.

Thanks for everyone's imput!I am going to pick it up tomorrow. I was just a little leary because the boat was $7900 & NADA was at $6400 but since then I have noticed that ALL Sea Ray's seem to be selling for more than the NADA prices.

I got the guy down to $7100, which I feel is pretty good considering that it has the nicer seating config. & the interior has no noticable flaws. The engine is a 305 & when I checked the hour meter, I was excited to see that it only had 139 hrs on it. The boat is stored inside at all times when not on the water.

I'm upgrading from a bayliner with a 4 cylinder so I think that I'll have a smile on my face for a long time.

He has another boat that he uses more & this was the boat that he bought so that he didn't have to trailer his other one. He seems like an honest person but as we all know only time will tell.

When I first looked at it he had said that they use a boat to drive around the lake a few times & then anchor.

Does anyone have any advise for things to look for that might lead to problems down the road?

There is a one thing that I wasn't crazy about & that was the single axle trailer. Like the boat, it's clean enough to eat off of but since the boat weighs 3150 lbs I would have expected it to be sitting on a dual axle.

The boat I have now had 94 hours on it. The issue is the age and that you may be due for exhaust manifolds and risers. With the low hours they may be fine, but you should have them looked at. Also, make your offer contingent that you'll pay the nearest SeaRay or Merc dealer to service these items:
O/D inspection and annual service including Gear lube change
Oil and coolant(if Fresh water cooled) is it a lake boat or has it been used in Saltwater?
Leak down and compression test

You may want to spend another $300-$400 for a survey. I did and it really makes the comfort level in buying a used boat more confident.
As long as everything looks in good shape you're deal is good.

If any of the above issues are in need of additional work, you have the option to pass and he pays for the inspection, but if they're good, you'll pay.....or like in my case the PO replaced the bad outdrive with a brand new one at the same price to me.

Best of luck

Nick,

It's not uncommon to see boats left idle over the years. It may also be helpful to post your location. In any event, I'd do all of the items Todd suggested, but I would take her out for a spin prior to inspection to make sure the engine runs to spec, including WOT, check for positive gear engagment, FNR, listen for odd sounds, make sure the bilge is dry prior to your sea trial and afterwards. Also check to make sure all of the accessories are operational and etc. The 3,000 lbs is about the limit for a single axle trailer. You can also check the data plate and see what the load capcity is for the trailer.

FYI, mine is a 230 BR Signature Series (the BR version of Todd's previous boat). The Select version included a stainless windshield surround, electric hatch, upgraded stereo, two tone gel coat and uniquie interior colors. My local SR dealer had one in the showroom. It also had a 454 Mag and was about 20 grand more than mine. Later versions of my boat were callled Selects and then the Executive Series included the stainless windshield surround and other equipment. In nearly 10 years of ownership, the only mechanical problem that kept me off of the lake occurred two months ago when the gimbal bearing decided to crap out on me.

I have a signature as well. I found a 99 with 165 hours on it, less than 17 per season, which is low. Our area most of the dealers I talked to said 25 to 30 hours per season was normal. The select series is what took over for the signature series as others have said. I have put about 30 hours on mine this season with about a month in the season left to go. Mine has the aft bench and captain's chairs and has a lot more room in it than a lot of other 21 footers I have been in.
