For those of us that live in climates void of year-round warmth, what do you do to pass the short days and long cold nights? Here are a few pictures illustrating what we do while stuck in the SNOW!

This helps with the countdown until Spring Launch (mid to late April in this clime).

House renovation projects, skiing, skating, pay frequent visits to sauna and most importantly do my planning for boating trips.

Work, work and more work...gotta pay for boating somehow! Without winter, I wouldn't be able to afford to boat.:smt043

Shovel the snow, another 12-18 inches on it's way by the weekend.

Plan for the coming year. Since I am retired I select a project and work like crazy on it until the boating season starts. I need to make sure the project is complete so it doesn't conflict with boating.

I am going to finish as much as possible around the house so the wife cannot bother me about anything—I am going to basically live on the boat this summer. It is my first year with the Family Cruiser (280) and I want absolutely no chores come April-1 (April-1 is the day I am allowed to put my boat in at the Marina. Regretfully but also fortunately, I do have a little work to do on the vessel before putting her in.

I respectfully disagree with Jackie J V with the notion that you need winter to pay for summer boating. With the amount of moneys that goes with Winterizing and then readying for the season….well, it is a lot of wasted money if you ask me. I would be happy with winter lows around 50-degrees. :smt001

I have the boat parked outside on the trailer. I go out and sit in the drivers seat and make motor noises while pretending to drive. Of course, I don't usually drive with a winter parka, hat and gloves on so that makes me REALLY appreciate the summer months! The rest of the time we go skiing or projects at home so that NOTHING gets in the way of boating next spring, summer and fall!!

Eat, watch Football, eat again... nap... watch basketball! Watch TV... eat some more! Repeat as necessary until Feb 1, when I realize I'm fat and have to exercise.

I need to get a winter hobby. Thinking about buying a sled, but then as luck would have it in Iowa... we would then get no snow.

Read these CSR posts everyday!

Drink beer and harass you guys. :smt001. I do snow plowing part time. Monday I'm going to get 24 ton of road salt for my friend. Its a 7hr drive around trip. :smt038

This is the worst time of year for me. The two things I enjoy the most are working in the yard & boating......can't do either right now. So I daydream of spring.......

Scott, cool plane. Let me know if you would like to purchase a full size avid float plane.

NFL. My wife and I are big fans. What to do now that my teams not going on in the post season? Get my spring boat projects all lined up and figured out.

It appears that way too many people here will be spending the winter harassing Gary, Frank W, and a few others that have jumped ship to another site. Pity. Lots of good information down the drain.

Hey Scott is that a Maine Coon or a Norwegian? We have 2 of those around here to torment. I'd post their pictures, but hey... this is the internet...

What plane is that? I'm thinking about pulling my stuff out of moth balls (8 yrs or so). I need a new radio setup. Been perusing new ones lately. I bumped into an old friend that flies alot and has a club with a good field and dirt cheap dues ($25/yr). I have an old Sig Cadet. I took it out one day and had 5 or 6 great flights. A wheel hit a rock or a hole on touchdown and flipped it over hard on the last landing of the day. It looked like it was gonna be a perfect landing, but it cartwheeled off to the left and snapped the tail off. I repaired it, and its been in storage ever since.

How many hours a week do you get in on the hobby horse?

What, you're not going to join your wife in cheering on the Colts? That'll at least buy you two more weeks.

Yea......still cheering on the Colts in spite of their "forfeit" last week :smt009 Couple bowl games & the super bowl to look forward too. 60 days or so until March & then it's officially spring in my mind

I got a new Nikon digital SLR for Christmas, so I can use the time before spring splash to learn how to use it. Sure glad the film and developing is cheap!
