My boat never had a TV antenna, so I have been watching DVDs.
Now I'm looking at Glomex and Shakesphere Sea Watch TV antennas. I'm sure all the new TV antennas are digital compatiable and my new LED TV is digital.
My boat is about 45 miles from the TV stations transmitters. My slip neighbors 10 year old Shakesphere UFO can only pick up two channels out of a dozen in the area.

So I'm asking, what is the best antenna Santa can bring me for Chrismas?

I'm not much help on the subject and I am interested in the opinions others have since I hope to get an antenna soon myself. However I was looking at the Glomex website a few days ago and they had a directional model that may be helpful if distance from the transmission towers is a problem. They were a little more pricey than the omnidirectional models though.

Our SR came with the Glomex and it works pretty well. We can get 15 maybe 20 channels sometimes, with half HD.

Have heard good reports for both. I have the Shakespeare and it works great. We anchor out every chance we get and can find about 34 channels off air between Tampa Bay and Sarasota Bay. Most are HD. Consequently, the HD off air is far superior to the HD you will get from cable.

I am installing my TV in the next few weeks. The boat did not have any TV originally. My trouble is finding a location to mount any of an antenna since I do not have an arch. I am going to try a cheap antenna designed for indoor house use and place it underneath the hatch to my anchor locker and see how much attenuation the fiberglass door has on it.

I used to have the Shakespeare mounted on the arch. I now have it installed under the dash and get the same performance results. You could also opt for a rail mount that you can stash when not in use.

My Glomex antenna works perfectly. I pick up all kinds of HD stations. I believe many of the complaints voiced are due to poor installation methods at the SR factory causing the coax to become disconnected during install. It has a lifetime warranty that is really a lifetime warranty.

The Glomex works good for me. Especially with the Amp. The issue you may have with the flat TV antennas is they are more directional antennas and you will be aiming it all the time.
