Reading all the “end of season” posts, has me thinking to myself what I would like to get done this winter. So I thought I’d ask, what boat projects are you planning for the off season?

I for one am getting my boat hauled, soda blast the bottom and repainted.
While its out, repack bearings and take props in for tuning.
Repack my rudders.
Possibly extend my planes.
Compound and wax the hull sides.
Clean the bilge (its getting nasty down there....) and re-light it, so I can see my hard work!
Full tune up on both 7.4 MPI's
Change my charger to a newer model.
Oh, and rebuild my windlass......

That ought to keep me busy and broke for the winter, since the Admiral is planning all kinds of dock upgrades; cabinets, granite, lighting, walls etc.:smt101

How about you?!

I'm thinking re-doing my bottom paint, even though I'm in fresh water, it just looks lousy-all chipped off, etc. Of course all the usual stuff, too. Tune-up, trailer bearings, oil change, outdrive service, etc.

Upgrade vhf radio, chart plotter replace rear canvas with camper top, change out drum brakes for disc on trailer.

I know what you mean about the chipped off look of the bottom paint. ;-((((( I know it needs but it will look better too. I’m going to change to black, right now its grey. Kinda odd looking on my boat.

I am with Smile Maker. Planning to winterize and change all fluids. Just bought the boat in June and have already 1) Replaced all graphics, 2) installed TV in cabin on a removable mount with another mount on the arch so I can move it back and forth, 3) Installed adjustable AC vents, 4) several USB power plugs, 5) repacked trailer bearings, 6) storage in ER, 7) repositioned bunks to fit trailer to boat, 8) installed remote trim/tilt switch on transom, 9) installed Glomex TV antenna, 10) new VHF antenna, 11) and washed and waxed til my arms and shoulders hurt. All of the above were done with much assistance from folks on this website. Thanks to you all!

Let's see...
Clean and reseal all my teak with SIKKENS
Change all fluids in all three motors
Polish all the glass to remove the water spots
Re bed all my handrail and my Nav lights
Fix, trim tabs, replace all zinc, and maybe paint the bottom (if I can ever get out of the water)

Planning on removing and replacing the boot stripe, as well as a full top-to-bottom compound, polish, and wax on all exterior surfaces. Somewhere along the line a complete bilge cleaning. And installing some Streak Stoppers (or similar homemade solution).

I have a few "have to do's" and a long list of "would be nice to do's"

1)inspect and replace risers/manifolds - we are the second owners as of this season and risers/manifolds are 9 years old.
2) purchase dinghy and davits
3) replace cockpit carpet - something like a synthetic teak would be nice
4)install KVH satellite system
5)pick up second job to afford all of this :)

I'm working right now on getting Beachcomber hauled out, probably in the next week if I can. I found some skinny water a while back and dinged my stbd prop. That's first on the list after it's hauled out--get the props off and take them to Seattle to be tuned.

Then I'm going to put two coats of bottom paint on her, then wax the hull below the rub rail. I may also be in the market for a couple of new batteries, but that can wait until she gets back in the water. It's easier to put new batteries in the boat when I don't have to carry them up a long ladder to get them into the cockpit.

Oh, and like Irie308 said.....get a job to pay for all of this.

I'm installing air conditioning. My wife won't do another Delta summer without. Changing all of the sliding window track. Refinishing the teak toe rail and weatherboards and changing fluids in all motors and trans.

Whew....got tired just writing it all down.

In addition to the normal maintenance items, I need to fix the sliding cabin door as I have lost both upper trucks, and the metal edging is coming off, so I will be pulling the door out completely to work on it.

I will also be redoing the instrument cluster as 1/2 of the gauges aren't working. I will also be replacing the faded panels at the same time.

Next spring, i will be stripping off the old graphics and replacing at least the waterline. I am not sure what else I might add yet, but my old graphics are dated and worn.

Thankfully, i a bit more time on the water before putting her to bed for the winter.

Well I want to polish and wax before covering up, all standard winterization items on engine, drive and water systems. I also want to remove the entire helm and rear facing seating system and reupholster, and rebuild the entire unit.

1. re-caulk the joints in the cockpit where the windshield meets the hull and where the seat bases meet the hull.....
2. polish the aluminum bimini top support poles
3. replace the windshield wiper blade and paint the wiper arm
4. 'possibly' have some of the cockpit vinyl recovered
5. have custom 'cockpit rain cover' made that snaps to the top of the windshield and zips to the bimini top (easier to install than camper windows)
6. install a gauge at the helm to indicate the state of charge of both batteries (gauge already installed, just need to wire it up)
7. replace leaking hose on remote oil filter
8. fill in a few screw holes with gelcoat or epoxy
9. clean bilge floor

This has been a fun thread! In fact, some of you have given me some great ideas that I may like to do. But, I wonder how much I will actually get done. I have to admit, if I get half of it done, I’ll be happy! Now, I need to get back to the newspaper and find a part time job...... gotta pay for all this!

Pulling her this winter to take advantage of the "winter rates" on bottom paint
if all goes well ...swimplatforms.com will get a call
and install a windlass setup.
and the basic yearly teak touch up
and plugs and wires..not that it needs them...just time to do it
and impellers all around.
may replace the old thru-hull fittings while its out... the plastic ones are getting a littlle chaulky.

that should pay the dues for the HIWC for next year

If you do number 5, then you'll have the money but not the time to do numbers 1-4!
