hello! i have these 2 wires in my harness, towards the starboard side rear of my carburetor. one of them was taped up with electrical tape, but the other one was as is. can anyone let me know what these were for, or if i need them hooked up to anything. thanks very much :)

Measure the voltage on each one with the key in the run position. One may have 12v on it and would probably be the electric choke. The other may be for a gauge sender. You could try grounding if it doesn't have 12v on it. Then look at your gauges and one may be pinned or way over to the left (0?) of the gauge.

ok gotcha, here is a picture of the side of my carb, i think the electric choke may be hooked up already? (purple wire?) let me know your thoughts.

i will have a look at the gauges when i get everything hooked back up and put back together, was just hoping someone recognized them and could possibly let me know as well, thanks.

Yep and the correct wire color based on your first post. Was a shot in the dark. I would do the voltage test and see if the gauges react at all.

Both of those ends are grounds. Are they the same wire?
There are additional components for example that are required if a boat is sold in Ca. The wire harness is common for all the boats however.

Hi, thanks for your response, i was thinking the same, I looked in my service manual legend at the color and what each wire was and as usual it mentioned black is ground, and I didn't see black listed in any other combination or usage other than ground. I don't believe they're the same wire but I could be mistaken, i believe both ends come from different directions, I would have to peel the loom open a bit and have a closer look, do you think I should ground the eyelet and just tape off the Spade connector? Or just tape both up? Is there any application or part that would require two grounds? They seem to terminate at the same area like a component is missing, any California emissions or anything that would require two grounds? I can't think of anything.

Or just tape both up? Is there any application or part that would require two grounds? They seem to terminate at the same area like a component is missing, but come from opposite directions. Any California emissions or anything that would require two grounds? I can't think of anything.

Black is universal battery negative. Neither looks to have been connected to anything - no scrapes or marks. You could meter them to each other and individually to the engine block (ground) to see if they are common to each other or common to the boat's ground. Other than that I wouldn't do anything with them.
