What a storm we hit!

I agree with Boltman. You did great. Got the boat home safe and sound and more importantly everyone on board was with you. Good job! I was in the Bahamas at Big Major spot and had the same thing happen. Was on us in an instance. Our boat was fine but some big mega yachts lost alot of canvas and other equipment. Scared me to death. Glad to hear not much worse for the wear. JC

The funny thing is, after doing that trip from Seattle to CA and encountering the heavy seas we found out there, I wasn't the least bit concerned for any one's safety during this storm. The boat handled well, ran like a champ in the chop we encountered ~2'-3' and other than that first blast of wind that rocked us about 10-15 degrees to the port side, the boat was very stable.

Didnt you buy a Sea Ray.... What were you thinking, that it wouldn't handle rough seas, we were in 7-8 footers this summer, Ambiance handled very well , wish I could say the same for the Admiral !!!! Haha you own a Sea ray trust your equipment !!!!

No complaints at all about how Beachcomber handled the waves. They weren't very tall (3') so we didn't even feel them when we were on plane. Kinda nice having all that weight beneath us.

ok heres a stupid question. this is my first year boating and i am curious, if we are anchored on the lake and the boat gets hit by lighting in a storm what happens?

Generally very bad things happen when struck by lightning on a boat. If you are not killed or burned your electronics and electrical devices are toast.

it's not like being in a car there are no tires isolating the strike of the boat discharging into water below.

Things are progressing well in getting Beachcomber back to 100%. We had the canvas repairs done within a week of the storm and have been dealing with Portland-based Rodgers Marine in getting the radar fixed. After a flurry of emails and phone calls between me, Rodgers Marine and the insurance company, all of the work has been authorized and I received a check yesterday for the full amount less my deductible. The check was made out to Bank of America (lienholder) and me due to insurance company policies so now I have two choices on how to handle it:
1. Try to get someone from BofA to sign off on the check so I can deposit in my bank.
2. If nobody with BofA has large enough huevos to sign off the check we'll open a checking account with BofA and deposit the check. Then, as soon as I can get some checks from them I'll write a check to my bank to transfer the funds and close the account.

Rodgers Marine is coming up here on 10/8 to do the radar install. They're going to remove the old Furuno antenna and cable and display. They also will remove a VERY OLD Raymarine GPS control box from the lower part of the helm. Then they'll do the install of the new Raymarine HD antenna using a new cable and hook it up so it interfaces with my Raymarine C140W display so I can overlay the radar on top of the GPS screen. They're also going to install a new DSC-equipped VHF for me and also a loud hailer antenna.

I have a loud hailer on the eyebrow but it doesn't work. I don't know if it's not hooked up or inop, but it's going to be working when they're done. To replace the burl wood panel where the current Furuno radar display is mounted I'm having a new panel made. It's an aluminum panel (instead of the plastic) with the same burl wood pattern and it's going to have the boat name and a SR logo laser-etched into it.

I'll take some pics of the install as it's being done and will post them.

Sounds like a very nice upgrade. If you have not had radar overlay before it is real sweet. I like the aluminum replacement panel idea that will add another touch of class. Have you considered an AIS equipped radio as a replacement?

I would not worry about getting checks. Just setup online banking and sent electronic checks or transfers. Then close the account.

I just went through this with an insurance claim of a substantial amount about 1 month ago. Insurance Company wrote check out to my lender (Sun Trust Bank) and myself. They had an insurance division and they signed the check no problem in a 2 day turn around. I understand BOA is a different animal but that money is not theirs to keep. My understanding is that it is written to the lien holder so in case you try to take the money and don't do the repairs. If you can prove repairs to the bank then they have no right to keep it from you. Make take a little while with BOA but it will have to come through. Call the customer service dept in the loan decision and as for insurance claims division.

I'm speculating here, but I thing the biggest problem with getting someone at BofA to sign off on the check is going to be finding a person with enough balls to endorse it over to me. My first choice would be for them to endorse it so I could deposit it in my bank.

If they won't do it I'll open a checking account and deposit the check, then take one of the counter checks they give me and write it to my bank. Once it's deposited and cleared BofA I'll call BofA and tell them to close the account.

2000SR280, I had a Simrad system on my 330 that could overlay the radar. I loved it and will be pleased to be able to do that again and only have one screen to watch. I've heard some boaters squawk about the screen being "too cluttered" with the radar overlaid on top of the GPS, but I think that's because they haven't spent the time to learn what the screen is telling them.
