So I smelled and found a few gallons of diesel in the bilge... turned out it was this little bugger here (the shiny new fuel line).

Apparently, this short fuel line picked up a harmonic vibration from the engine and cracked at the rail end. The fix is to replace the fuel line and to install that nice little bracket that keeps it from vibrating. Of course, they can't install the bracket on the other engine until a) it fails; or b) Cummins puts out a service bulletin.

Obviously, I'm pulling for B!

Well that sounds stupid. They have a "fix" but only if it fails. So you ready to take that LOOOOOONG cruise now and not keep thinking "I wonder if it's failed yet" as you are going along?

I'd go for option C..............buy another one yourself for the other engine. You don't need to spill more diesel in your engine compartment or worse yet, get stranded with only one engine.

Yes, buy one for the other engine.

BTW, my new MAN mechanic pointed out that they are now recommending NOT standing next to or between the common rail diesels while running. A leak in the presurized fuel system could result in fuel mist ejected at such force as to be able to cut through skin and bone.

Nope....use the country boy common sense approach.

Tell your dealer you have already proven and paid the price for some cost savings and you aren't buying any more experience and will not accept the risk of a fire due to fuel spraying everywhere in the engine room. Now order the bracket and fittings and haul your butt down to my boat and fix it before you have to buy not only a bracket but a new '07 44DB because you are now on notice that I have a fire hazard and you, not me and certainly not my insurance company are on the line for the liability on this one.

Frank used the country boy approach.....I'll throw out the Jersey approach.....break the other one.....step on it...hit it with a hammer...do what ever it takes...then call them and tell them "it broke"......I mean hey.... you TRIED to be up front with them....

Well well Dominic.... I just realized your anchor didn't bend from being hooked on the bottom. You bent it up yourself so you could get the wife to agree on a shiney new stainless one.

Speaking of....according to the FedEx tracker, my shiney new anchor is scheduled to be delivered today...Hopefully when I get home it will be sitting on the front porch....

You just might....It ain't here yet....I'll have to make a call to the FedEx ........or call my cousin Tony...

Tim, sorry to hear about the mess. This is very good info. I'll be at the boat in a few hours and you can bet the first thing I'm going to do is look for the shiny (hopefully mine's still shiny) fuel line and see if there's a dampener on it (them.)

Larry- it was shiny before the tech painted it white, so yours will be white. I doubt they will have the dampers on them given that there has been no "bulletin" yet, but let me know if they do! It may be worth speaking to your dealer about it...

Tim, I looked and couldn't identify the line. My dealer re-opens Tuesday and I'll e-mail him about this tonight. I'll use you as a reference regarding the problem.

Hey Festivus,

Did Cummins come out with a service bulletin on this line? I need to check mine out. I have an '07 44DB as well.
Thanks,
Jet Lag

I hadn't seen this thread before today. Guess next time I'm on the boat I'll have to take a look at both engines to check the integirty of the lines. Festivus, is that snubber a Cummins supplied part? Do you have a part number or was that a local fix?

Upon returning from 16 days in Canada (100's of miles from home) I found a fair amount of diesel sloshing about in the bilge. I asked the Admiral to fire up the beasts, one then the other and found the port engine had a hair line fracture in the metal fuel line. I got on the phone with my local CAT dealer and ordered both the port and starboard fuel lines... One fails, replace them both !!!
