Anybody have them, what do you think of them........some say they are better then JL. Need a subwoofer for the bowrider, may change out the speakers while I'm at it.

John

From what I've read, JL's have a deeper richer tone and sound better with power through them , wet sounds seem to be the best for tower(wakeboard) applications, the sound is a little higher toned, both are on the top of the food chain. I know a few people that love the JL's so I'm upgrading to the JL's .

I have no idea how any of you hear the difference in a lot of these speakers. Polk, JL, Alpine, Kicker, etc. Does it really matter.

I have had Clarions, Polk, and JL. The JL is definitely the winner, however you really won't notice any difference unless the speakers are powered properly.

Slapping a set of JLs into a boat that are only powered by a head unit will yield very little results. The stock amp setup on most of the larger sea rays will only marginally push a set of the JLs.

They are definitely not cheap though!

I agree, with some clean power (a good amp) the JL's are incredible. Good highs and hold a lot of bass.

The JL M series claim they're so good you won't need a sub, I love the bass and am keeping my 10" sub. For some thump!!!!

Yes, it does to me. I can hear a difference. To you? No, if you are asking that question. It's kinda like wine. I couldn't tell you the difference between a $10 and a $100 bottle but I don't care about wine. I care about audio so I know more about it.

Shamrock ... Trust me you will love the JLs I matched them with JLs 400/4 channel amps and bought the 600/2 marine amps for the two 10" subs on the bridge btw I have 10 7.7 component speakers in the bridge
The JL marine amps are crazy good small and very powerful you won't me disappointed .

I will go with Polk Audio. I have seen them win a boat stereo sound off over all other brands. The sound off was judged by IASCA judges.

Well Doug your on to something this just in:

Come on now. Let's not fall for the Jedi mind trick. Sorry to say, but that speaker comparison review is totally meaningless. There’s not an ounce of validity.
No one tested the speakers in a lab.
No one installed and listened to all those speakers under identical conditions .
Someone collected and categorized all the printed and on-line literature and based the results on the same information that is available to any consumer. They based their evaluations and comparisons on the information, specifications and self-promotional sales rhetoric supplied by each individual manufacturer.
Furthermore, many of the specs are totally unqualified so it is impossible to compare brand to brand performance based on unknown and uneven standards.
Is the sensitivity weighted or unweighted, taken at 1 foot or 1 meter?
Is the frequency response +/- 5, 10, or 20 dB?
Are the power ratings taken per 'BLS' or 'JBF'?
Does anyone realize that the speaker with the lowest resonance and deepest response will never be the most sensitive?

The author, once you read the more in-depth product articles, is completely exposed as knowing very little about audio and is clearly faking it. He makes sound quality conclusions based on the specifications he is reading....and not on personal experience.
Just completely bogus.

Which brand/model would you recommend in your experience? Or is there more to it? Such as head unit, amps, etc, ?

I have the JL's and the band new matching amp... Love it.., but don't let them bs you... You still need a sub... Big time
