Happy New Year to all. Does anyone have any experiance with the muffler set up on a 500da ? I noticed on our last run that there was a small (about pencil lead size) trickle of water coming out of a bulkhead opening at the lower, rear, of the starboard muffler "box". I did a little looking, there is another opening in the same area maybe 4 inches higher that i can get my hand into and inside there is a rubber cap and clamp. No water leaking from there. And by feel im thinking all that area is fiberglass. Also where the exhaust comes off the engine the hose is connected to fiberglass. How are these mufflers set up...a "standard" muffler in a fiberglass shell, or ??? As a added note the leak is only active when the engine is running.

Not sure but some mufflers have a drain screw at the base...maybe loose/corroded/fell out?

My first thought as well.

Another possibility is a crack where exhaust hoses are attached to the muffler. The hose clamps can cause leaks if they are over tightened when hoses are replaced.

Ill check that. Im seriously hoping its not anything to serious. Because of course its on the starboard side, under the septic holding tank........ugh!!!

Of course it is! And surely it will be on the side furthest away from easier access and getting a tool back there.
