I noticed after a rain that the port distributor cap was wet. Just above is a hole in the deck where wires and hose enter, along with some water. I could not find a place where the water would enter from outside, so my thought is to cover the distributor cap with a piece of plastic sheet.
I cut the plastic sheet to size so it goes from the intake cover back over the distributor and continues a little further to the back of the engine. It is held in place with tape to the large intake cover.
I now have two choices.
1 - leave the plastic sheet in position all the time. However, I don't know if it could cause other unforeseen problems when the engine is running.
2 - only place the sheet in position when not running the engine.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Seal the opening with silicone so water doesn’t enter

The water might be coming in through the anchor locker. In your transom locker is a false wall, on the port side, that has the shore power, and other, connections on it. Behind that wall be a pass-thru spot to the bilge. It "sounds" like that is the area you are talking about? That wall is easily removable. In addition to sealing the hole, also check where the locker drains - generally the locker drains quite well, but if the drainage area is clogged, water may back up and find other ways out... or down.

There are two openings on top of the engine, both quite large for electrical cables and water tubes. I don't think it can be sealed. I have tried to find the source of the water, but so far no luck.

Thanks for your thoughts, but the water problem is in the very back of the boat.

I edited my first post - I said "anchor" instead of "transom locker". However, the rest should still make sense as it's where the shore power cord, and other stuff, are located on that false wall.
