I was talking with my father in law he is Grady white owner. When he runs his boat and does not have the generator running, he was told to close the valves bring the sea water into the generator system. Is that something that others currently do with your sea rays? I usually run my generator (westerner 8btd) when ever I take my boat out, never really thought about this before, is there a danger of running for extended periods with the generator seacock open and the generator not running?

I would like that answear too. I have never run it while underway and close the seacock when not in use. Have build a long SS hook to reach in from deck to open the cock when i want to use it and then close it when done

I never close my generator sea cock. Haven't done that on any of my vessels. Can't see water being shoved up the supply line past the seperator. Even if water did get that far it would simply circulate through the system and then over board.

I keep mine closed unless i am using it. I have the theary that why leave something opened if not needed. I would have the night sweats if i left the boat and went home. What if a hose breaks, what if the sea strainer fails. Dont want to walk down the dock and see the antenna the only thing sticking out of the water. May be old thinking but helps me sleep
