Hi all
Just started the 8kv Westerbeke ran for a second or two and stopped. Will not fire.
Turns over fine so had a quick look. Seems no power to the fuel pump and fuel solenoids. When you hit the pre heat there is no sign of any power to anything but the starter and plugs.
Any ideas where to start greatly appreciate
Regards
Phil

Gas or diesel?

You could try the to reset the breaker on the engine between the backend, I believe it's on the right side facing the back of the generator. It should be in plain sight if you are looking for it, near the solenoid for the lift pump.

Edit: Look at page 3 of the service manual: https://www.westerbeke.com/technical manual/manual_service_35e_44c_8-15 btdc_45100_rev_2.pdf

The one labeled 20 Amp circuit breaker - that is for the DC. The other is for the AC.

If it turns over, fires then dies, might be one of the over temp or low oil pressure switches have failed. You can jumper them out of the circuit one at a time.

I'd you don't hear a clicking while holding the Preheat switch down, possibly bad connection to or failed fuel lift pump. You can replace with aftermarket from Amazon very inexpensively.

Racor and on generator fuel filters recently changed?

Done that but thanks. The wiring diagram shows a 10amp breaker on some models that feeds that side of things but sadly not on mine !!

Some links for you

You can also jump those switches to take them out of the circuit to see if she runs.

Some of these might help.

You can also unscrew the fuel run solenoid to see what's going on with that. Just measure the distance between it and the block so you know how far to screw it back in when done.

If that's the problem or part of it, the gen will run with it out and to turn the gen off, you can stick your finger in the hole to push the cut off thing back or screw back in the solenoid until she dies.

So - Will the gen stay running if the prime switch is held on? If so that over rides the safety kill sensors, one might be bad or disconnected? Or are you at the point where it won't turn over - no voltage?

There are so many posts about WB gennys not running and how expensive the parts are. I owned one for 16 years and it was absolutely reliable. If you are new to the genny, I would have an authorized WB technician service it, do all of the PM for the hours on the meter and get it running properly. After that, if you are competent to do the work, start with oil and filter changes. You will likely save money over posting questions on the internet, and throwing parts at problems only to find out later that was not the issue.
