Does anyone have any experience with the WB Hydro hush muffler? My 7.0 BCG is really quiet INSIDE the boat, but the exhaust sound outside is really obnoxious, far louder than other boats. During raft up, it's no fun. So, I was snooping the WB catalog and found the hydro hush for $330 online. Before I drop the $$, I was hoping to hear from folks.

Thanks

THis sounds like a cheap fix for a Westerbeke. Most of their parts are really expensive. Have you talked to their customer service/tech people? I would imagine this is a part that eventually loses it's effectivness over time.

Hmmm do you have a pic of it? reason I ask my neighbor has a 98 370 and I have a 90. My genny is an 05 low CO genset. And it is queiter than his ...like noticeably quieter. just wonder if I have this muffler. If so it is awesome cause you can't hear my run when the engines are running and it is very quiet on it's own.

It looks like the muffler on my genny. If it's the same, it does the job. You don't hear ours run outside the boat. Inside the boat, the bilge fan masks most of the genny sound and it is not objectionable to the ear.

Well glad to hear someone else say these things are loud. I have been thinking a baffle came loose in ours for years. It IS louder than the mains. Its annoying/embarrasing to run around other boaters! $330 is not bad at all. Probably be wise to replace the soft hoses as removing the originals might be fun. Be nice to know they are sealing properly too.

Looks like the same principle as a traditional water lift muffler. My Westerbeke 4.5 passes through a Centek "Vernalift" muffler. It's similar to the main's mufflers, just smaller. All we notice out the exhaust is occasional "sloshing" as cooling water is forced out of the thru-hull.

What kind of exhaust system is currently in line with your genny?

This my take on it as well. Does a nice job.

I had the same problem with the same genny on my 98 400EC. the problem is the whine because its high speed...3600rpm vs never 1800rpm units. I looked online and found a neoprene muffler from Holland Marine Products in Toronto(they ship to USA). I called them, bought it and its a $100 miracle!
I left the factory muffler in place, placed this on top, shortened the hose about 14",
It does not restrict the water flow in any way as you can see right through it, so no operational issues, which was my concern.
Now that I can't hear the exhaust, I hear the whine thru the cockpit sole...a much tougher fix! Hope this helps.
