I assume you had to screw the oil filter adapter on first, then mount the right angle connectors, and then the cable, or did you actually have enough clearance to screw the thing on assembled? I'm sure I don't on the 7.0 BCG.

We will find out in the next few days but the plan is to install the Westerbeke adapter first without the 90 degree swivels ….with the male AN/pipe adapters in place.

It is a tight fit which is why I went to using short radius 90 degree swivels.

Once that is set…..everything else is easy. Just have to double check the hoses or no oil pressure.

I will shoot a few pictures of the install.

What year is that? Mine is a 2003 and it is laid out totally different. 7.0 BCGB. Is there a difference between the BCG and the BCGB?
Well ……I have a low profile BCDG 7.0.

The starting place is your Operating Manual which will have the appropriate kit for a remote oil filter. It will be in the oil filter section of the manual.

Once you have that part number you can look up the kit on Westerbeke’s website.

Their kits run between $500-600 which is why I wanted an alternative.

Alternatively if your generator uses a Westerbeke 036918 oil filter the kit I have outlined will work.

I was just curious because my oil filter does not lay parallel with the engine but perpendicular so I don't have the same problem changing the filter.

I finally got to the installation of the remote oil filter kit in Post #62 yesterday.

Adapter install. I ended up removing the OUT AN fitting on the adapter to get it to clear a block sensor. Once the adapter was screwed into place it was easy to reinstall the AN fittings.

Yes I know the oil pressure switch terminals need attention. Part of the reason I wanted to do this upgrade was to relocate the brass fitting and brass sender (top right of picture) which sends the oil pressure to a dash gauge. That opens up access to the impeller and the oil drain hose.

Remote oil filter installation:

The brass fitting on the right of the oil filter adapter is for the relocation of the oil pressure gauge sender. Notice the flow arrows on top of the oil filter adapter. It is critical that the IN of this adapter is connected to the OUT of the Westerbeke adapter. And that the OUT of this adapter is connected to the IN of the Westerbeke adapter. Either that or you will not have oil pressure.

Line connection:

The line hook up was much easier than I expected. The AN fittings make this easy. Notice the Oil pressure switch has been repaired and the gauge sender has been relocated.

Just to complete this update, I moved the dash gauge oil pressure sensor to the remote oil filter unit to free up some space on the front of the generator.

In doing so…..it came to mind that stainless steel hoses with aluminum fittings probably would not provide a decent ground back to the generator. Sure enough, when tested it read 250 ohms of resistance. Simple solution was to run a ground wire from the generator to the remote oil filter unit so that the DVM read 0 resistance.
