Hello, My oil pressure switch is leaking oil badly. The parts manual only lists the switch for the model 13 engine - which seems very different than the 8.0. I've called my local distributer (in MA) and they have sent the wrong switch twice. My switch has a threaded stud for the wire terminal (photo below). One replacement switch had two spade connectors and the the second had one spade connector. I'm waiting on a callback from Westerbeke, but the distributer said good luck with that. They don't know if the single spade switch has the same oil pressure setting as mine, so I'm reluctant to install it with a new spade terminal on the wire.

Can anyone help? This is pretty frustrating!

Thanks - Joe

OK - It took several hours, but Westerbeke support figured it out. I'll add the part number tomorrow, but in a nutshell, several iterations of the switch have been discontinued. There are two available, one with two spade connectors and one with only one (this one is used on the 8.0BTD). It's as simple as cutting off the eye connector on the wire and replacing it with a spade connector. The switch has the same parameters as the OEM. Westerbeke said they were changing all of their models to this one switch. Photos below:

Mine failed in a bad way. The generator had only been running for a short period of time (maybe 15-20 minutes) when the alarm went off. It auto-shutdown a few seconds later. When I pulled the front cover, i found the generator sitting in a pool of oil. Because the gen had shut itself down, I couldn't see where the oil was coming from, so I checked what I could, filled it up and ran it. Sure enough, after about a minute of running, the oil switch was spraying oil all over. Thank goodness it was all contained in the gen box. Also on the bright side, it probably saved itself by shutting down when the oil pressure dropped suddenly.

great post
My Westerbeke is having issues as well. Could not shut the alarm off yet everything was running 100%. Seems SeaRay added a high side oil psi sensor to the SeaRay systems alarm set up that’s not listed in the westerbeke book.

Per Westerbeke, the switch I replaced (in the photos above) is for the alarm and safety shut off. So that may be your issue, as well. To the right of the switch, is the oil pressure sending unit. You'll see in the parts manual photo below, it shows a two-prong switch (#44. The oil pressure sending unit is #43). The tech just chuckled and said "not on yours". So, it's just a look-and-order-what-you-have situation.

On a similar note, he strongly suggested using and downloading the manuals on their website as opposed to what came with your boat, as they are more current. Unfortunately, the parts manual is from 1986.

Finally, there is a service bulletin from 1983 that cautions against using anything but a special tool to install this switch. Using anything but can damage the seal between the metal housing and plastic insert causing a leak. Yeah, I read that after the fact. Luckily, no leak.
