Westerbeke 7.0 BCG Maintenance

I have a 7.0 Westerbeke BCG gasoline generator on my 1994 330 Sundancer. It has been laid up for the past few years. If I were to consider doing the tune-up myself (w/ a very mechanical friend), is the "Kit A" that retails for around $250 enough to get it going? I'm assuming there is also some kind of carb kit that will also probably be needed. I'm sure that will also need to be removed and cleaned out. Any helpful hints would be GREAT.

Depends on the condition and how well it was laid-up a few years ago. Plugs and pump impeller is a good place to start. Not sure why they include a new rotor without a distributor cap. If the fuel was properly stabilized, then the carb should be OK.

thanks so much for your reply. I'm really not sure if fuel stabilizer was used. I was going to work under the assumption that nothing was done... I was thinking that Weserbeke must offer that Kit A for a reason (most comnon maintenance parts??) This just seemed like the right fit for the situation. I just want to make sure I'm not missing something that someone with some experience might know intuitively.

Well, here's my take on the carburetor. If the linkages move properly, then leave the carb alone. If the engine starts and runs OK, leave it alone. The ethanol in gasoline will clean the carb about as well as disassembly. Once you get the engine running, let it run for a couple of hours. Should burn less than a gallon per hour with a light load, so you'll need to run it a long time to flush it well enough.

Sounds good to me... so you think changing the plugs and impeller pump first would be enough, or do you think I should get the kit and replace everything included in sequence, but not to worry about the carb unless I need to?
