so some of you may remember I posted about my westerbeke shutting down after 10 minutes or so and water flow with steam etc.
Well, top of the motors oil and cap where milky too. But not the oil in the pan.
I have a marine machanic friend that says he will help me (click and point)
To rebuild it. Il be turning the wrenchs and buying the parts of course..
My questions are these:
Does anyone know what I should do as far as purchasing parts. I hear westerbeke is over priced.
Do you think it will be worth doing a rebuild or should I (if this is the case) just do a head gasket and seals etc?
I almost, if cost permitting, want to just do a complete rebuild So i have a like new Genny to last the next 40 years.
Id love to hear any input, thoughts, ideas etc.
Thank You in advance!

Are you just planning on rebuilding the engine portion or the entire generator? If original to the boat how many hours are on it? Has a compression and or leak down test been done? I would only do a top end refurbish if that is all that's needed. BTW if you can determine the make of the engine the majority of the parts can be bought at NAPA for a fraction of Westerbeke prices.

Thanks hot, i just picked her up back in December. Im guessing the hour meter for the generator is this one within the fuse panel correct? 479 hours?
Yes im wanting to just rebuild the top end im hoping..
