Westerbeke 6.5 BCG generator

We have about finished our refurbishing our '87 340 sedan bridge. The final piece of our project for this year is the generator, which I can honestly say is SHOT! Better the generator than the engines! Do they make after market parts for this model? I priced parts thru Westerbeke and they are starting at $4800. I can just about buy a new one for that price and that is without shipping, tax or labor. We need pistons, rings, a connecting rod, rod bearings......well you get the idea. I read somewhere that some tractor engine parts will fit the Westerbeke's. Does anyone have any idea how to find out? Or is there any aftermarket parts? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

1.0L (993cc) Daihatsu 3cyl 6v (2 per cylinder). I believe that the model is a G10. You want to look for parts for a Daihatsu Charade. This engine is used in a ton of european/non-us cars.

I give you this with the caveat that I'm not 100% sure it will all work, but I've bought several parts for this engine, and they've all worked. I'm at least 90% certain it wll all work.

I can't find the bookmark that I had, but there are definitely more parts out there. I had a site that had full rebuild kits with cams, but I can't find it. I also think a 1986 Chevy Sprint uses the same engine.

I don't agree with you about engine vs genny. I can rebuild a big block MUCH cheaper than rebuilding a Westerbeke using Westerbeke parts. A master rebuild kit for a 454 is about 500 bucks.

Agree with 390X. I am replacing some misc parts on my 6.5. I believe the overseas vehicle engines used points in the distributor and the chevy sprint used
electronic ignition. Otherwise the vehicle engines all appear to be the same. Timing belt for westerbeke $ 146.00, Gates timing belt $ 14.00 at FLAPS.
Generally the Westerbeke parts are 10x the cost of the vehicle parts. For the generator only type parts I have gone to aftermarket or Macgyver. After market
heat exchanger, filters, Capacitors, Mcmaster Carr pulley modified for the governor etc. When the time comes it will be an aftermarket fuel pump. I still
need to identify the carb for a rebuild kit.

I haven't looked at the carb yet, but I think it's just a downdraft Weber. I'm sure we can figure it out.
