The gen set was not in use for only two weeks, when I tried to run it, it starts and then very quickly shuts down, if I keep the flap in the carb almost completly close with my finger the gen runs perfectly and smothly, as soon as I release the flap the gen shuts down. The solenoid and choke switch both work well, I took the carb apart and cleaned it and the porblem remains, has anyone experience this problem?

Does the choke stay closed once you release the preheat botton. There is a sensor that shuts the choke off once the generator comes up to right temp. If it goes bad the choke shuts off as soon as it starts.

any help hereplease!!!!

Have you checked the fuel filter?

+1. There is a tiny fuel filter in the carb.

Have you checked the fuel pressure to the carb?

When was the last tune up?

How was it running 3 weeks ago?

More past performance issues or non issues would help. I cannot remember them all so I check the trouble shooting part of the owners manual to help jog my memory. Might work for you as well.

Mine did the exact same thing. Start with the fuel filter. Then move on to a carb rebuild. Mine had very small and I mean very small trash in the fuel bowl and carb jets. I rebuilt the carb and it run like new.

Hi, fuel filter checked and fine, fule pressure is also fine, my view is that it is an air intake somewhere in the carb despite taking it 3 times out for a clean, however; i have not replace any jets nor gaskets!, had the "specialist" last week but what he says does not make sense, he says that the choke solenoid is not working properly. this is driving me nuts! westerbeke parts are far to expensive to buy only to dismiss faults, just check for a full carb replacement and it is in the region of 1,000 bucks!!! this is insane!

Pico once your Genny starts the choke should stay shut. look to see if its opening after it starts. Mine was closing when you hit the preheat button but as soon as it started the solenoid would open the choke. It was the temperature sensor which opens the choke after it comes up to the right temp.
