Does anyone have any experience / tips / advice / horror stories to share with regard to transiting the Welland Canal (either direction)? I'm looking at taking Two Peas through the canal from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario (and on to Toronto for a week), but have never done so.

It's been a while, but it was $100 fee, two people on board going down and mandatory 3 people coming up. If you don't have a third person you can hire a hand at port dalhausie(a few million gallons of water filling the locks in a few minutes causes a bit of turbulance) Commercial vessels have preference. We tied at port colbourne and got the call to go at 1 AM:smt013. But I don't know of anyone else that that happened to. We stayed at Toronto Island Marina and took the ferries back and forth. Had a great time. Enjoy the trip
