well we splashed her - day from hell

If you checked your strainers and no water came in your seacocks were closed. Keep in mind if your seacocks are open on your A/C and generator - you need to look at rewinterizing your A/C and Generator.

If you received a bag of manuals, try to spend some time reviewing them.
Sometimes the learning curve is pretty steep, we've all been there, some of us will be there again...

I can't imagine how the exhaust hoses didn't melt from lack of cooling flow. Nor the shaft seals from lack of water. If all you need to replace is impellers, you're one LUCKY sumbitch.
In all seriousness- you don't have a clue what you're doing- and you now know that. Get some instruction from your friend with the 320 or pay a licensed captain to explain the boat's systems.

Then- enjoy your boat.

I just can't believe I may have posted something of real benefit to someone finally :smt038 And it only took somewhere around 90 posts to do it. Hope everything works out for you. SB

Tawcat, It seems like it's contagious.
Sorry to hear about this.
I'm crossing my fingers for you

well the day went well. the impellers were in fact shot. the port had a cored hub, the rest of it was great; the starboard was pathetic, however, the hub was in great shape.

diagnostics did fine, all systems go. thanks for all the well wishes and the criticisms. i don't think its not that i don't know what i'm doing, just a bit ignorant to all these systems as they are new to me. btw, the seacocks were open. an expensive lesson? well actually a cheap lesson, it could have been a helluva lot worse.

trust me my nose was buried in that sea ray black bag last night, even learned how to properly flush the head!!!!! who woulda thought!!!!

again guys thanks for all the input. jeff (bottomline) things didn't turn out that bad and the harbor staff has been great, sam called today to apologize and to see how things were going. my guy here said that the impellers could have been blown putting it on the trailer. he said some times the bunkers are set in such a way that they cover the intake!!! who knows, i'm not pointing fingers too many variables in this puzzle.

bottomline - she's ready to rock and roll

Hey things happen. If you are ever in St. Louis I am happy to share what I know about the 320. I have had my boat apart. For installing GPS and other projects. Good luck and I think you will love the 320.

Man that's great. I think we were all fearing the worst possible outcome.

Infact when I fell asleep at my desk this afternoon. I had a nightmare about this. I woke up screaming SEACOCKS!

Stan....glad all turned out well. Now for warner weather...come on spring!! Did you say you purchased a bilge heater? Keep me posted on how you like the boat.

Glad it turned out well. It wasn't meant as criticism- as Donald Rumsfeld said: "there's things we don't know, and things we know we don't know" or something like that :). Knowing your boat's systems can not only "save the day" and perhaps a bunch of money, it also helps ensure the safety of the crew and passengers.
Good luck with the new boat.

did not take it as an ugly remark, but rather constructive criticism! i'm not perfect and to be truthful, pretty darn nervous right now of all the things i don't know about this boat. with a bit of reading, input from this forum and experience running her i think i'll become quite comfortable.

ever try to change a headlight bulb in a new vw beetle? now theres a learning curve!!!!!

thanks for your input, i really do appreciate it.

Glad to hear it turned out reasonably well. I would still check out shaft seals - 2 hours of freewheeling the props with no cooling / lubrication can damage them.

Good luck with the new boat.

we didn't run the boat for anywhere close to two hours. unless of course the tow time is considered. heres another dumb question, how do you lock the props from turning?

actually i'm not sure if those impellers would have performed any better. what we believe happened is that the water in the impeller housing froze, and probably solid, so nothing could move. i've often asked why a key part to engine operation is made out of cheap a$$ rubber!
