Well, we have a contract and getting ready to survey a ‘99 450 Bridge.

Anyone have any tips on things to look for on that boat? It has the Cummins 450’s.

Service records are going to tell the story... In my '98 new dripless, new cutlass, props&shafts balanced, newer fridge, all new electronics, new stereo, all new flat panel tv's, new raw water pump for A/C, rebuilt raw water for gen., repacked rudder shafts, the list could go on & on... I have CATs, so I can't comment on the engines, but I have had my 1000 hour service and get oil samples analyzed, Rydlyme the raw sides 2x now. Also for our age is all the crappy freshwater connectors, I replaced 99% because they all failed or were about to start leaking so I replaced them all. 2 surveyors one for the engines and one for the boat & systems. We are also under contract on a 99 450 EB in Northern California. Engine survey is today (3126 Cats, not Cummins). They are going to take oil samples to be analyzed on the three units (Cats are just over 1000 hours, generator at 600). Next Friday is the is the second surveyor for the boat and systems and we are going to do the sea trial also that day. The good thing about the surveys is at least you should know if there are any issues with the boat and if repairs are needed, you can negotiate either a repair or price reductions from the seller.

In doing some research, the one item to look for with the early production boats is the joint between the engine vent and hull side can leak water into the hull side core (and possibly the oval windows). Some boats were fixed early, others not. The hull is cored.

Thanks. We are doing oil sames, thermal imaging, etc. This boat was actually dried out and those joints re-glassed and sealed,so we are hopeful that we will get a good survey.
