Well we are finally going to look at the 1999 Sea Ray Sundancer 290. It's on island in superior so going to visit it in the winter was a little challenging and we are staying the weekend due to five hour drive.

I love the 23' Maxum it's a good boat but we need to move up for some more room with our long nights on the river. The trade in value seems to be reasonable with the current market of $10,000 we owe 11,500 and we bought it at the end of July '09 so we are not taking a hit there.

They are asking $41,900 for the Sea Ray we want to offer $32,500.00 and go no higher than $35,000.00 w/delivery to the Mississippi does this seem like a reasonable approach? If we like it and they are flexible on the selling price we will get a surveyor of course.

The value of 290 DAs is a wide range primarily due to the amount of options offered. A few were single engine, and the choices ranged from T4.3s all the way to T350 Mags. Some had gensets, some had windlasses, some had camper canvas....even the tan dash was an option. Additionally, there were at least 2 different interior layouts offered.

Bottom line is, do lots of research, and buy a boat that's been well taken of. In the long run, that boat will be your best buy.

I found the used markup is about $7K so not sure the dealer would accept your $35K since he would not make any profit but you can make an offer like you said and see what happens.

You are right on the price range for the 290 they seem to be all over the board.

This particular boat does not have genset unfortunately
Equipment,
Twin 4.3 VS 380 HP
Beam 10'2"
Raymarine radar
cockpit cover
Full Camping canvas
windlass anchor
remote spotlight
Davit system

I spoke with the mechanic that serviced the boat the owner stayed up on the maintenance and I guess the boat is in pristine condition but I will see this weekend

Your $32,500 offer just became $34K because you still owe $1500 more on your boat than they are offering you on trade. I wouldn't rule out a cost of 2 grand to transport the 290 (10 hrs round trip + overnight expenses)

Just curious, what have you found locally?

I found a few 2002,2003 single engine 290's at the Marinemax in Rogers MN asking price was $49,000 but I really want twin. Marinemax would broker our boat for 10% fee plus 200.00 storage fee. The sales guy figured he could get between $11,500-$13,500 for it fairly quickly just not sure we want to take the chance with dual boat payments.

We are adjusting to slip fees and all the expenses that go with the pleasure of owning a boat :)

jabs, The only thing I can say on this is !!.
Once you've owned twins you'd NEVER go back to a single. :smt038
The chances of both engines sh*tting to bed at the same time is very very rare !!.
You can always get home on one motor and that a plus.

There is a 97 290DA at American Marine in LaCrosse, WI with twin 4.3's and only 230 hours. They don't list a lot of details on it, but it does have a tri-axle trailer. In this market, they might be willing to deal if it is set up the way you want it.

There was a 290 with a single 7.4 / Bravo 2 in our marina. I was suprised how flat it rode at cruise speed (no gen) but, as Wayne said, once you have twins, you'll never go back to a single.
