Sold the boat, went under deposit today... interesting experience to say the least. Took about 2 months give or take. Things I learned...

1. The kit you get with the "ByOwnerYachts.com membership is good for the docs...

2. Boattrader.com....Im not so sure about the utility of it...what I got from it was lots of e-mailed questions with no phonecalls...from prospective buyers

3. Definitely list in your local paper.

4. You would think more sites would have a view counter so you as a listing seller can see how many people have viewed their site and someone gauge the usefulness of listing with a given company.

5. In general, and I may seem down on boattrader but in general I felt it was a poor advertising venue, one we all must use, just in case...but it was very expensive, and didnt really yield much.

My next boat is not a SR, in fact that deal is already agreed, just need to close when the owner comes back into the NE in May/June...but I if you folks dont mind having a sailboater (motorsailor) around I think Ill continue to hang my hat here...Ive enjoyed posting with many of you since 05, and its insane how much Ive learned from the Franks, and others here.

I will say this, the process of selling our boat, and finding and striking a deal on the new boat really illustrated to me that amongst the boating community you run into some of the best and brightest as well as very community minded people

Congrats on your sale. Look forward to having you with us. Just part of the extended "FAMILY'. JC

Once a Sea Ray owner, always a Sea Ray owner. Even if you have gone temporarily insane. :smt101 "Motor Sailor"? :smt100

Your going to need all the help you can get. Better hang around.

Congrats on the Sale  I was going to give you a hard time about the blow boat but I quess I'll have to be nice since Richard already got you. :smt043  What size is she?

I'll hold off congratulating you until the funds clear in your account.

I wil,l however, offer you the best of luck on closing the deal....

Congratulations even though it means one less 260DA in the hands of a CSR owner. :smt089

I am sure you thought about the switch to a sailboat long and hard. One things for sure..........you can laugh at us as we continue to belly-ache about the cost of fuel all summer long.

Did I ever tell you about my plans to convert a 260DA to sailpower.......................Hmmmmmmmmm......... I probably should keep that a secret. :smt043 :smt043

Don't be boatless for long

The new one is 1980 45 ft, french made motorsailor called a Dufour 12000 CT, this one is hull 39 of 46. They where made for the charter companies and this one was sailed in Greece before being brought to Boston.

What made me go for the change is that I had long dreamed about one day taking my sons across the ocean, and had remarked about it to one of the mechanics at my marina...2 yrs ago...and he had pointed at this boat while it was up on the hard and said to me "Well if you ever have the chance, that is the boat you want to do it in" at the end of this last season this same mechanic who is a snowbird and had a couple days left in Connecticut said to me "The boat is going up for sale" and it occured to me that opportunity was knocking, the chance of a lifetime, seems much like women, maybe we dont choose our boats...they choose us :)

Well Dave, gas prices certainly weighed on the decision...also this boat has an 85HP perkins diesel with tankage enough to travel 600 miles on the diesel..and the motor only has 1900 hours on it.

Glad to hear you're going for it...life is for the living! May the wind always be at your stern. (I can't believe I typed that :smt021 )
