Anytime a discussion like this comes up...all I see complaining are the republicans....Where the hell is the other half that voted this guy in... Keeping quiet and hoping the change they voted in...will change back?

Step 1. Buy clunker for $100 from junkyard
Step 2. Buy an American car (i.e. Honda)
Step 3. Sell car for $4000 cheaper than I bought it for.
Step 4. Go to Step 1.

Yep, and all of those dealers left are Obama supporters. The republican dealers were closed by Congress. What country am I in? All of this sounds like old mother country stories old people used to talk about when I was little.

Speaking as a registered Independent. . . .I no longer comment on Politics on this board -unless I deliberately want to stoke something up. This board is populated by too many right-of-center types that are more interested in grandstanding than having a real conversation.

After the huge non-success of the last Republican administration, followed by the nomination of a less than stellar candidate who ran a fairly flawed campaign. . . . .were you *really* expecting the Republicans to come up roses last November?

I personally was looking for reasons to vote for the over-the-hill white guy last time around. . . but the chosen candidate of the Republican party proved to be non-impressive.

He basically took the summer of 2008 off and let the Democrats run the media for two or three months. Then he tried to upstage the Democratic convention with a VP candidate that was basically a gimmick. The final straw for me was grandstanding ploys pulled around the time of the debates and the Tarp votes in the Congress.

Ok. . those were the reasons not to vote for the guy. I was looking for reasons to vote for him. The only one that seemed to have any validity was "He's a librul".

All the scaremongers have been ranting about "Taxes" and "inflation". Non-stop, 24-7. Oh. . that and "Obama is a Moslem".

So far. . I have not seen taxes go up. The only ones that seem headed up are the Bush Tax Cuts which are set to sunset as planned by the Republicans when they passed. I will bet a wooden nickle that if the economy doesn't improve that those tax cuts will get extended a few years.

There are other taxes that people talk about increasing. . but I have not seen it happen (I am sure the Rush and Hannity crowd will provide links shortly. . .whatever).

As for inflation. . .yeah. . I think that is a real, real worry. But just yesterday, someone posted an article that stated that the Social Security COLA may be zero this year. That doesn't happen because of inflation. . .that happens because of deflation. (Note: Although TurtleTone last year keeps talking about Manhattan being on sale, and cars/boats/houses may be real cheap. . . I am not seeing deflation by any stretch of the imagination)

So. . . . I will sit here, put on my Flame Suit, and merrily read on as all the Chicken Littles continue to post PROOF that the sky is falling.

And in my other browser window. . I will read all the Leftist Green Hack Jobs post their latest PROOF of global warming.

And I will enjoy my whiskey while laughing at both.

No one can talk about Obama.. it's always "lets go back to last year and talk about Bush and the election."

Stay on subject and tell us why a "Pay Czar" and what good the government does by dictating pay for ANYONE?

Maybe we should have a "House Czar" and dictate how big of a house someone can live in.

And a "Boat Czar"... and a "Marriage Czar" so the government will pick your bride... and a "Career Czar" so the government will dictate what job you can have...

That is the problem with elected officials. Most have never had a real job in their lives!

I don't think anyone should be able to run for office unless he/she has worked in the 'real world' for a minimum of 10 years and paid taxes on that work, like everyone else.

Most of the lawyers I know and have been associated with are different than the ones occupying space in Washington. Those guys should all be banished.

My $0.02 worth.

I have to get back to work.

Just this past weekend a co-worker of mine went to DC for a wedding. I asked him how his trip went and he told me that he go lost and ended up in some tough neighborhoods. He said it was kind of funny because EVERYONE was wearing Obama T-shirts.

My bad. I mistook the thread for generalized Obama bashing. I didn't realize there was actually a point being made regarding a particular topic.

Back on topic;

I choose not speak in defense of *this* policy because I do agree with it, AND I don't feel like debating it. Of course, if I felt like debating it . . I might post some counter arguments just to rile things up.

But I will say this: I will state that I am not 100% pleased with what is going on in Washington. Feels like too much like the Dems coming back into power and "getting payback". Passing bloated spending bills with everyone's pet programs 150% funded. Doing "social things" like this pay stuff. . .which smell like some sort of payback towards fat cats that the Dems perceive as enemies. . .

I don't see the verge of the USSA. . . the simpler explanation of political payback is far more likely.

Right now. . .I see a rain dance being played out. Too soon to tell yet if the sky is actually falling.

Part of this program is that all traded cars will be destroyed. This will affect the used car, salvage/parts/repair businesses. Depending on how long they use this program it has the potential to force car owners to buy more new cars rather than buy used or maintain older ones. They say this is about emissions and fuel economy but it looks to me like it is primarily about generating car sales.
