So I was passing through a tight commonly traveled channel this weekend. At one point, I looked behind the boat, only to see a field of green. Green, leafy, bottom growth type material. I said to myself "Gee. . .that can't be good". :smt101

I was only about the 500th boat to go through this channel that day. I had one boat behind me. . and two in front when I saw this. I clear a bridge, putter through the long no wake zone, then kick the throttles.

Sure enough, at 3000rpm, my problem child starboard drive temperature gauge starts climbing. :smt089 "Normally" the gauge starts moving at 3500rpm (due to another "pre-existing" condition).

After muttering various epithets under my breath for two minutes, I proceded to throttle down and shut down the engines. As I was climbing onto the swim platform, I noted a bunch of green leafy material floating away from the stern. The drive intakes appeared clear (5.7LX engines, with Alpha I drives)

Restarting the engines. . . everything appeared normal.

I suspect that I sucked up some material up against the drive intake, which held in place due to the sucking action of the drive pump. Shutting down the engines stopped the pumps, allowing the "stuff" to float off. Same thing happens to my JetSkis.

Does this happen to any of you? :smt100

Are there anyother strainers in the 5.7LX and Alpha I water system that can get clogged? :smt100

Happened to me years ago going through Narragansett Bay in R. I.
Shut down for a minute, checked around, cleared the foliage, re-started, and off we went.....!!!!

It happens all the time down on the coast with the sea grass floating around. After I go through some I always slow down and throw it in reverse and blow the grass out from under the boat and then proceed on. No problems.
