web camera....

I have used a $10 USB webcam with a 10' USB cord taped to a
stick to look under the engine, back of cabinets and in other
inaccessable areas. I connected it to a $50 android tablet.
A lot cheaper than using a $250+ iPhone. I used a camera app to record and view. Neat way to record engine serial numbers.

There are some wireless security cams that offer zoom and tilt
if there is a wifi hotspot available. Great for remote monitoring.
I bought one for under $120 2 years ago. Made by Swann I think.

Re: web camera...

Do you have to keep the wireless bridge plugged into a router? I have wifi at the dock and am looking for a way to monitor temps using the wifi.

I have an AcuRite setup on my boat as well. The bridge does require an Ethernet line, and won't work with JUST WiFi. I ordered http://www.radiolabs.com/products/wireless/usb-repeater.php which picks up a Wifi signal, and then repeats it for extended range. I had no need for the repeater function, but it also has an Ethernet port so you can get the AcuRite stuff working. So, yes, with one more piece of equipment it will work with the dock wifi.
