Am I the only one on the Great Lakes wondering when the Heat is going to arrive?

I've heard that this has been the coldest July in over 100 years!

Normally, Lake Michigan water (within 5 miles of shore) is normally around 76 degrees at this time... we checked yesterday and its only 67!

I thought we were worried about global warming?
Well, when is it even going to get warm?

:smt021

We had 85 on Saturday, then about 8PM a system rolled through that's not too common to us. It came with thunderstorms and a 20 degree drop in temps. Sunday it was off and on rain, more thunderstorms and only 65.
Today the clearing is slowly taking affect, but tomorrow and the rest of the week promise to return to decent summer weather.

Good luck to you.

They call it "climate change" now, not "Global Warming". That way, no matter which way the weather goes, they're covered. It's like how the local weathermen lately have said "chance of showers" so that each day (as in about 15 of the past 16 days) that it rains, they're covered no matter what it does!

Temps have been below normal here in the Carolinas as well. But that means instead of the 90's it's in the 80's which is kind of nice. Oh yeah..........our water temps dropped from 87 to 84 as well. (Go ahead and shoot me now:smt043).

Exactly. They think that we are all idiots. Here's my take. The Earth is approx 4,600,000,000 years old (4.6 billion for all of you liberal arts majors). The thermometer was invented somewhere around 1593. We have been able to measure temperature for approximately 416 years of that 4.6 billion year history, which amounts to 9.04E-9% of the time that the Earth has existed. Ooops, forgot the liberal arts translation. That would be 0.00000000904%.

Maybe its just me. I'm no statistics major. But basing ANY decision on 0.00000000904% of the data is just plain reckless.

The other rub is that there have been multiple (4 seems to be the number I recall) "ice ages" in which the planet has nearly frozen completely over. All of them happened before man ever figured out how to make copper, gold, iron, or carbon spewing water toys, so we know that our "pollution" had nothing to do with them. That means 4 periods of "global cooling" followed by 4 periods of "global warming".

When someone can give me a logical answer as to how you an claim "global warming", "global cooling", "climate change", etc. based on such a small amount of data as well as address the issue of the ice ages, I would reconsider my position. Until then I'll just need to stand by the statement that "Al Gore is an ASS.". Hard to believe that he and his kind are able to scare so many people into believing what they are saying, and even harder to believe the level of acceptance they have achieved.

:smt043one long volcanic eruption and it is the ICEAGE all over again...

Usually this time of the year I go to the boat and can't wait to jump in. I went for a dingy ride today and my wife wanted off ASAP because she was cold.:smt089

no better here. Had to postpone our trip to Port Dover this weekend. Numerous thunderstorms and wind. Cool temps are no good for the beach, but T-storms and 25Kt winds every weekend and we can't even leave the dock! Try again next weekend

I bet against the weatherman and won yesterday. They were calling for thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening. It looked pretty bad until about 3:30, then it was just a little windy with a medium cloud cover. I had to burn some fuel, so I shoved off. I got hungry so I stopped to get some food (at Riverwatch, for the locals). During the hour I was docked we had a 15 minute solid rain that cleared out pretty quickly. Spent the next 2 1/2 hours just running around burning fuel on perfectly flat water with no wind and very little boat traffic. What a great ride.

It looks like we got lucky this year in Maryland. The water has been warm enough to swim in since early June and the temperature has been "stuck" in the mid to upper 80s all summer. Over the past couple of years, we were seeing mid to high 90s starting in June with the temps hitting 95-100 for most of July and August.

RedGST-

We are over in MKE and having just returned from a late July / Early August trip on the pond ( Lake Michigan ) here are my observations. Silly me traveling w/ one pair of long pants in early August... Near upper Michigan our daily highs never broke low 70's. When we flip on our Surius weather and turn on the satilite sea surface temp we were hard pressed to find tenps above 65 accross the whole lake michigan. We usually find bays in upper 70's even a low 80 to swim in. First time in my boating career we had to run the heat in berth, salon and cockpit at night! We would make our buddy Al Gore happy as we cut our carbon foot print soley on the fact we minimized our ice usage being in the 50's at night. I'm sure we will be recognized for that!

Remember keep your cars out of the garage and your engines always on!

We had some lows in the high 30's low 40's when boating in northern Michigan this July. Highs were in the high 60's. On warm days we made it into the 70's. All things considered, I'll take that over the relentless heat of a few years ago, when we had to spend lots of time below to get out of the sun. Our run home was one of the worst that I remember. We had 10 hours of wind, head seas and rain for 260 miles. Every time we moved the boat the water was rough.

No boating here today. 6:10pm Sunday night just saw the storms picked up pace and should be to Western Michingan in 10 minutes. Take cover these were duzies over in Wisconsin. Hope your all off the pond! Another round to follow in a few hours!

Yeah well its hot as hell here now...thanks alot guys!
