We got our 1988 27' Sea Ray Sundancer in May, she had been in dry dock for years and was a real mess. My wife wanted to turn around and run but for $12500. how could we say no. I am 75 and she is 68 and it was to say the least a lot to take on. It has also been one of the hottest summers we can remember here in Charleston, S.C. but we decided to go for it. She was in pretty good shape just neglected. We took 5 large bags of trash off of her the first day we started and then as the temp was over 100 we decided to call it a day. We had agreed to pace ourselves , then came the scrubbing and pressure washing. Sylvia was busy getting the galley in shape, wasp nests everywhere. She bought lots of things to make her a home away from home. Now she in in the water and boy is she happy. One engine had to be adjusted and we have a potty problem that we would like some suggestions from someone about. Some one had put paper in it and it is clogged. It won't pump out.

Looking good....the 268 is a great boat. Twin 454s?

Great point Quint, I missed that. Must be twin 4.3's. Twin big blocks would make for a snappy 268!

In any case, a beautiful boat, congratulations.

Do yourself a favor and have someone replace the head discharge hose. The paper and "crap" in the line is like concrete, trust me.

Congrats on getting the boat in the water. One question though, am i seeing a 270 in the pic was under the impresion that all 268s had the forward facing arch that boat has the swept back just as a 270 and 300. Also if it is a 270 could it have twin big blocks i have heard storys that they made them but never seen one, would make for a awsome running boat for sure.

Make sure you take some before and after pics as you go along. Many of us love a good project!

Welcome to CSR!

Congrats and welcome....that is not a 268. More pics would be great!

have a friend with the same boat with twin 350/260hp and it flat out flys, can't imagine how it would run with big blocks

That's a 2710 Sundancer. It would have a single big block, t4.3's, t5.0's, or t5.7's. My family had one of the original 27's from 1982 for 17 years. A salesman convinced my dad that the single 454 was enough motor.......It wasn't.

Appears to be a 270, and judging from the outdrive seen behind the boat, a single I/O?

Hey looks great and I am also cleaning up a Sundancer 270. Only thing is mine's a 1986 with twin 5.7's. Mine was in great shape too but also was in desperate need of cleaning but so far so good, so I am not complaining. I am new to boating so when I got her I heard some say she was too big for a first boat but I still say phooey. I am happy I bought her. I took the boating safety course and a navigation course while getting her ready, and she has become my new pride and joy. When the time comes to sell her, only two things will be the reason... either catastrophe or just too move up to a larger boat to accommodate more friends and family to enjoy the experience with. Other then that I couldn't fathom another reason for parting with her. I know everyone complains boating is expensive and a headache but to that I say so is marriage and raising kids and yet I still love them don't I ... lol.

All the best,

Congrats and welcome. I for one knows what you guys went through. Lots of projects going on here at CSR and great information.

We do like pictures, so take some more of your beauty and post.

I'd say a 270 with twin 350's or a single 454, Mike.
