Waterfront (2nd) home or a boat you can spend weekends on?

My wife and I had this very discussion before getting into our first cruiser. It all came down to how nice of a place/boat our money would get us.

These days that discussion still holds true. Look at the kind of boat you can get for $200k vs a cottage on the water. I'd be vacationing to a single wide with a leaky roof in the middle of nowhere on Lake Superior for $200k :)

So true. My wife and I have been discussing it for some time as well. I want water front and she wants our house that was built in 1730. Unless I buy an ocean front plantation ($$$) I don't see us moving. We're only 5 min from the water, but I want a dock of my own. Our house in NH is on the water, but no dock because of it's proximity to marsh land.

It's how my boat got its name. Any beach we choose to be located at, on any given day.

We would just like to live closer to our lake. Some days the 4hour drives gets a little long when just going for a weekend.
I guess if we lived on the coast or in a state that had water front property that would be a thought however in Utah that does not exist on any of the lakes.

Boat for sure. I would get bored after 1 season of the same restaurants, beaches and things to explore. That's the best part of boating for me is going to new/different places each weekend or vacation.

T-W-T…. How did you miss that memo ? :)
Funny, my Boss asked to go full time and I said no, His Boss the Store manager put me on for a solid week. I worked it because the “store kids” saw it and made plans. Asked the big Boss what was up and he said they really needed the help. My response was “so next schedule, hire some more kids, if you feel I need to be here 5 days just leave my name off indefinitely” all is good, yes T-W-T would be better but I do try to help. They keep wanting me to move up to manager, NOPE.

For me easy decision, boat. In fact I could easily sell my house and live aboard full time, but that's not gonna fly with the husband

4 hours one way to the boat?

Hey there, off topic but where did you get the cockpit faucet, love that.
That's a bit of an older pic. Tried 2 of those, off of Amazon. Both had the base trim ring rust out almost immediately, and the water had to run the rust out of the flow if I hadn't used it in a while. Stainless, my Chinese ass.
So, the latest looks a bit more like the original Whale faucets the boat came with. 100% plastic, and I will throw them away every 3 years or so. I even wrote a scathing review on the high loop faucets, and got ZERO response from either Amazon or the manufacturer.

BOAT, adventure and exploring is what we like. u can't replace it!

A while back we made the decision to get a bigger boat over a condo down south. I have never been more then a few miles from my boat and could not imagine having to drive even 1/2 hour to get to the boat either. After many years in NY, I am in my vacation home. I guess I ended up living my dream of living on the Chesapeake and having my boat here too. Not ready to leave just yet.

Another point worth considering about waterfront living is noise. While we absolutely enjoyed every year we lived on Spring Lake, it is a very busy body of water. There were times when the go fast boats running by our home caused us to stop a conversation until the noise died down. It was a little like living next a train track or a freeway. That was mostly on nice week ends. We built a home 5 minutes away from the lake house and we marvel at how peaceful the relative quiet is compared to the other place. However, we now hear the go fast boats on Lake Michigan which is down the street from the new place.

Had to play plumber today and replace the tub faucet after the wife messed with something she shouldn't have... Long story short, we hit the Depot and Lowes. Both had absolute junk Chinese plastic shit for faucets. Delta included. I was disgusted. I just rebuilt what we had and I'll save the update for another day.

Have both with a 3.5 hour drive to the lake house. Real estate prices are going nuts around our lake. I have been trying to convince the admiral to buy a house boat with 6 bedrooms and keep the day boat. Not biting yet. I think I am going to have to rent one if I have a chance to convince her. Long-term goal is really to find a house in southwest Florida, around the Naples area, on a canal with a dock.
