I have a 1990 260 CC with 7.4 Bravo 1, and my running temp is about 180?? see pic. to me it looks high Previous Owner said it was like that for him, and it was just serviced. but I was thinking about replacing the raw water impeller and housing (raw water kit) but getting to the pump is proving to very difficult... (impossible for big guy) has anyone done this? do you think that would solve the issue? or am I just barking up the wrong tree?

I would verify what temp thermostat is installed mine typically runs right about 145 unless the Lake Huron water temps get above 80.

any way to do that without taking it apart?

Infa-red temp gun pointed at thermostat housing would work. They aren't all that expensive now and most have a laser pointer.

Although ir guns arent that accurate, I would point it at a frost plug on the front of the engine for a closer reading. Thinner metal to dissipate the heat.

Is the boat closed loop cooling or raw water? Raw water should run around 145 in cold water while a FWC system will run hotter around 160-180. Its possible the wrong t-stat was put in, or your impeller needs replacing. How hot are your risers and hoses getting? You could have some scale built up in the risers restricting water discharge.

Scorpio, it is raw water system, I don't have an IR gun, I'm betting that since it is a 1990 the impeller is also a 1990... only a contortionist can get to it... without taking the engine out first
